Histoire
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life. George, with his twinkling hazel eyes, easy charm and lack of wedding band is almost too good to be true, but coffee becomes lunch, lunch becomes dinner, and soon they can’t go an evening without seeing each other.

Becoming a stepmother is the best thing that ever happened to me. My favorite part of every day is picking Charlie up from school, watching her little rucksack bounce behind her as she skips over for a hug. I love the feel of those thin freckled arms around my waist. After a few rocky months of panic attacks when her mother deserted her, Charlie is flourishing. But the day Charlie’s mother Bronwyn returns without warning—showering Charlie with gifts and making promises she can’t keep—fear ripples through me. She doesn’t know just how far I will go to protect that little girl.

Samantha Frayn doesn’t know why Peter Bridges picks her - a nobody with bitten fingernails and a troubled childhood behind her - but she falls quickly. He’s older, charming, likes fine wine and French films, and his beautiful home has real art on its walls. Peter transforms Samantha’s life in an instant. He sees the better version of herself - the one she’s always wanted to be. Description
Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster.
Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them. Rachel has a life now - a boyfriend she loves and a three-year-old daughter she adores - and she will do anything to protect them. But to do that, no one can ever know that she is Molly Forster.

Stopped Listening after Chapter 10
Story is dry, dull and anticlimactic. consistency is poor at best.
The protagonist is whiny, over dramatic and passive aggressive. Incredibly unrelatable.
The first ten chapters had zero substance to catch the readers attention.
Poorly written. Boring. Not worth the read.

A great listen
Very happy with this audio book. The story was excellent from start to finish and I really enjoyed the narration. It kept my interest with numerous twists, some foreseeable, but still the journey was entertaining. Set in the UK, and narrated with an easy to follow British accent with easily discernible parts despite it being the same person. Very talented.

Wildly frustrating.
I hate to leave a book half-read. I like to give books the opportunity to redeem themselves. Once I start a book, I’m invested. However, working through this one felt like chewing gravel. I skipped ahead periodically out of sheer frustration. It was so far fetched and nonsensical, my eyes ache from rolling them so frequently.
The narrator does deserve credit though. I cannot fault her performance.
