Histoire
Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it. Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things. But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them? Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated. Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

Conor: It starts with a drunken text pic. The kind I would normally never send. Only, instead of it going to the flirty hotel bartender, it goes to some random stranger who actually responds. Wells: The first thing I notice about Conor Newell when he sits down in my high-rise conference room is how delightfully nervous he is. Then I see his tie. William C. Morris Award Winner: Best Young Adult Debut of the Year
National Book Award Longlist
"A remarkable gift of a novel." (Andrew Smith, author of Grasshopper Jungle)

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: If he doesn't play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone's business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he's been emailing with, will be compromised.
With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon's junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out - without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

Almost nothing like the film
I saw the movie and wanted to dig deeper, so I got this book. Simon's parents are completely different people for the most part, and provide almost none of the comic relief they did in the film. I can only think of maybe one single part of the book that didn't play out differently in the movie.
The book is occasionally funny, but overall, I don't think it was quite entertaining enough to me. I felt like I was listening to it to get it over with, not just for the joy of it.
Maybe I feel I didn't get much out of it because almost everything profound or poignant was put into the film, as well as a lot more that just wasn't sourced from the book. If you want to give it a try, definitely read the book before seeing the movie, or at least long after seeing the film.

Few surprises from the movie
Overall it was good. felt a little teen-ish at times which could be good or bad depending on the listener. I was worried there would be so many characters (possible contenders for "blue" and I wouldn't be able to keep them seperated) but thankfully not.
