Description

This dark psychological fantasy is more than a moral tale. It is also a product of its time, drawing on contemporary theories of class, evolution and criminality, and the secret lives behind Victorian propriety, to create a unique form of urban Gothic.

This is a classic?

first off I would have to say that I totally forgot about the other Tales of Terror part. For the whole second half of the listening I was wondering what the heck this has to do with mr. Hyde.

they were definitely interesting to listen to, as they come from an era when books were written very differently than today. dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde was shorter than I expected it to be seeing as how there are so many offshoots of it.

the other Tales didn't really make sense to me though. didn't really seem to have much meaning, and the last one was quite baffling.

I'm not sure what that was

the strange case of dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a really good story. it's classic and well done.
the rest however, Stevenson seemed to confuse mystery and horror with nonsense.

Great way to experience a classic

I am a fan of Michael Kitchen's work, Foyles War and all that and this was free on Audible. I figured why not, I am glad I did.

Considering this story was written in 1886 it holds up incredibly well. Stories were written much differently back then and it would have been a hard slog to read the novel. Michael Kitchen's narration makes the story once again accessible.

So many Narrators attempt to make unique voices for the different characters. In the last Audiobook, I listened to my wife found the stereotypical Russian accents offensive, and frankly, the Richard Nixon impersonation was a bit over the top. Michael Kitchen doesn't do voice impersonations and frankly, I found that refreshing, He lets the words tell the story and not distract from the story with some badly done accents.

The AudioBook contains two additional short stories which I also enjoyed, All in all, a great listen for a Halloween night.
