Histoire
As a young Christian man, Matthew Vines harbored the same basic hopes of most young people: to someday share his life with someone, to build a family of his own, to give and receive love. But when he realized he was gay, those hopes were called into question. The Bible, he’d been taught, condemned gay relationships. Feeling the tension between his understanding of the Bible and the reality of his same-sex orientation, Vines devoted years of intensive research into what the Bible says about homosexuality.

Description
As a teenager and young man, Justin Lee felt deeply torn. Nicknamed "God Boy" by his peers, he knew that he was called to a life in the evangelical Christian ministry. But Lee harbored a secret: He also knew that he was gay. In this groundbreaking book, Lee recalls the events - his coming out to his parents, his experiences with the "ex-gay" movement, and his in-depth study of the Bible - that led him, eventually, to self-acceptance.
But more than just a memoir, Torn provides insightful, practical guidance for all committed Christians who wonder how to relate to gay friends or family members - or who struggle with their own sexuality. Convinced that "in a culture that sees gays and Christians as enemies, gay Christians are in a unique position to bring peace," Lee demonstrates that people of faith on both sides of the debate can respect, learn from, and love one another.

Food for thought
#Audible1 -- The author presents his own story in a very forthright and plain manner. He gives clear reviews of beliefs by Christians from many different backgrounds and thoughts. The material gives a lot of reasons to think about one's beliefs and understanding of the Bible and the topic of LGBTQ identity. Will likely be listening again to be able to take the material in for more processing.

Important Book for All Church Leaders
The ability to listen and understand the other person, without trying to convince the other person of my point of view is so important for all issues facing the church. Hence my title above.

Thank you.
Excellent read for any Christ follower caught in the middle. I cannot recommend this book enough. Justin is the most humble, gracious young man that I have"met" in quite some time. This is a thorough examination of the issue - while at the same time reminding us that there are PEOPLE caught in this...not just ISSUES. Thank you so much.

Important and honest
Justin is a brave man. Nothing is more powerful than someone’s own story. He is correct that this is one of the most important issues for the church as we relate to our culture.
“ A new command I give you: love one another as I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, that you love one another. “
