Unlistenable
While there is no problem with the content, and I'm sure the stories themselves are good, the narration and subsequent editing of this audio book made it frustrating to the point of unlistenable - I couldn't get past the second story. The problem is that there are "negative" spaces throughout: where there should be natural pauses, there appear to be few; and where there should be a MAJOR pause - such as that which would identify the end of one story and the beginning of the next - there was none at all.
For example, coming to the end of the first story (The Lottery), I was actually listening well into the second story before I realized that the first story was even over. So what could and should have been a dramatic and impactful conclusion to an otherwise good first story was completely ruined by barely a breath taken before the next story began - I've heard longer pauses between simple sentences! I partly blame the audio book editing (as opposed to the narrator), since the allotment of "Chapters" appears to be based solely on length of time, i.e. each being simply closest to the 10-minute mark rather than being allotted based on, oh I don't know, how about the next short story?? The resulting Chapter divisions made no logical sense whatsoever.
Note this same issue is present in the narration of Audible's "The Great Hurricane: 1938", which also has a disorienting lack of space between book sections and chapters.
