FIRST IN THE GUARDIANS TRILOGY

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a trilogy about three women and three men who join forces to solve an ancient mystery through the power of timeless love…

Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.

Sasha is the one who holds them together - the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.

But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars....

Clear distinct voice variation

A great story if you enjoy magical unforeseen aptitudes! Nora Roberts can sure tell a story with great dialogues amongst her characters, never a dull predictable moment. But a good story is only catching when a great performer delivers it to its fullest. The narrator here does just that: delivers. Well done!

Entertaining

I found the overall story entertaining and liked the way the characters came together. The scenes were not too graphic or bloody or gory. However, while the narrator did a good job of the female voices, as for the men it was actually tiresome because they sounded more like old men and if was often hard to tell Doyle and Bran apart, and definitely not sexy voices at all. I did find the book enjoyable enough to buy book 2.

"I like the wine."

I went back looking for other non-thriller series by Nora Roberts and was happy to stumble upon this one. Once again, Roberts weaves a fascinating tale of fantasy, adventure, and romance and delivers a book that's hard to it down. Sasha is a great character, and as an extreme introvert, she is a character type we don't often see as protagonist, which gives the series a fresh take. Her way of intertwining fantastical history is also very alluring and fun.

As in my other reviews of her work, it drives me crazy that nearly all her character somehow mention as part of their introduction that they aren't homosexual and I really hope she stops doing that in her future writings. I love her adventures but sometimes her lack of perspective becomes tiresome.

Saskia Maarleveld (great name) is a calming, heartfelt narrator. Occasionally her voices for Doyle and Bran are far too similar but the rest of the narration is great.
