Publisher's Summary

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

What the critics say

“The authentic American apocalyptic novel…I venture that no other living American novelist, not even Pynchon, has given us a book as strong and memorable as Blood Meridian.” (Harold Bloom)
"McCarthy is a writer to be read, to be admired, and quite honestly envied." (Ralph Ellison)
"McCarthy is a born narrator, and his writing has, line by line, the stab of actuality. He is here to stay." (Robert Penn Warren)

Jesus Christ

This is hard to listen to (McCarthy's style) but utterly gut-wrenching and stays with you.

Seriously flawed

Wow what a in depth look at American history. Not a nice look I assure you. But informative especially if near true.
But in the end the pursuit of a boy by a seriously flawed man.
Not pretty but very good in my opinion.

Spectacularly Vivid Tale

A spare but spectacularly vivid novel- most discuss the brutal violence, but the landscape descriptions are amazing and what I find most compelling about the work. #Audible1

the judge

the idea of the judge is horrific and monstrous, and I find him vile and fascinating

the ride never ends

I've listened to this book three times. I'm still not entirely sure what it all means, but it's a goddamn ride from start to finish.

A western like no other

Awesome book you should definitely pick up if you like anything western or bloody.

But don’t worry if you’re the squeamish type, MacCarthy elects to be more poetic than descriptive in his writing.

Narrated Wonderfully

A much easier listen than read. The narrator's fluency of foreign language, characterization of dialogue, deliberate cadence, and expressive tone made it easier to follow a difficult text. I can never say I fully grasp what Cormac is at, but this time through I caught much more.

never read something like this

a deep, intense and graphic novel isn't something easy to come by nor enjoy no wonder this novel is "unfilmable" so far.
