Histoire
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

The consolation prize was an authenticspace suit, and when scientifically minded high school senior Kip Russell wonit, he knew for certain he would use it one day to make a sojourn of his own tothe stars. But "one day" comes sooner than he thinks when he tries the suit on in his backyard - and finds himself worlds away, a prisoner aboard a space pirate's ship.

After the fall of the American Ayatollahs as foretold in Stranger in a Strange Land and chronicled in Revolt in 2100, the United States of America at last fulfills the promise inherent in its first Revolution: for the first time in human history there is a nation with Liberty and Justice for All. No one may seize or harm the person or property of another, or invade his privacy, or force him to do his bidding. Americans are fiercely proud of their re-won liberties and the blood it cost them; nothing could make them forswear those truths they hold self-evident. Nothing except the promise of immortality…

Welcome to Ringworld, an intermediate step between Dyson Spheres and planets. The gravitational force created by a rotation on its axis of 770 miles per second means no need for a roof. Walls 1,000 miles high at each rim will let in the sun and prevent much air from escaping. Larry Niven's novel, Ringworld, is the winner of the 1970 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 1970 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 1972 Ditmars, an Australian award for Best International Science Fiction.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Solaris, Audible, in cooperation with the Lem Estate, has commissioned a brand-new translation - complete for the first time, and the first ever directly from the original Polish to English. Beautifully narrated by Alessandro Juliani ( Battlestar Galactica), Lem’s provocative novel comes alive for a new generation.

Description
Stranger in a Strange Land is the epic saga of an earthling, Valentine Michael Smith, born and educated on Mars, who arrives on our planet with “psi” powers—telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, teleportation, pyrolysis, and the ability to take control of the minds of others—and complete innocence regarding the mores of man.
After his tutelage under a surrogate father figure, Valentine begins his transformation into a kind of messiah. His exceptional abilities lead him to become many things to many people: freak, scam artist, media commodity, searcher, free love pioneer, neon evangelist, and martyr.
Heinlein won his second Hugo Award for this novel, sometimes called his “divine comedy” and often called his masterpiece. This Blackstone audiobook is the “as published” version, read from an Ace paperback published in 1987. The full, uncut text was not made available until 1991.

I groked it
Although there are aspects of this book that don't age well, (misogyny and victim-blaming), this book contains some really progressive and compelling ideas of religion, sex and society. Heinlein introduces these controversial ideas, not in a preachy self congratulatory way, but puts the reader in a bystander position to see the compelling aspects of otherwise radical beliefs. Smith's innocence at the beginning of the book is incredibly endearing and had me laughing out loud. His character development alongside Gillian was incredibly engrossing. The story is very well written and even if it challenged my own personal tastes, I found it to be enriching and enjoyable through-out.

This one didn't age very well.
Story is firmly stuck in the 60s. For a story set in the future this is quite laughable. Not in a good way. DNF.

a laughable comedy at best
I had bought this audiobook because I heard great things about the Author, and that his literary works were something on par with the likes of Asimov and such. perhaps they are, I could not tell because I was not able to finish this book. Too liberal?, you may ask! perhaps. However I was expecting a little more, like a grand space adventure, the exploration of a distant world maybe. who knows. If I wanted erotic bedtime stories I would have probably looked up some erotica novel. The storytelling was decent though it didn't seem to go anywhere, and no, I'm not being judgmental. I am also currently listening 🎧 to some George Orwell, and happen to be (gladly) stuck on a conversation between two men in a bar, which also seems to drag on Albright quite delightfully and engagingly. Heinlein's novel seems to drag on like a bad cabaret act. I hope to give an opportunity to his other classics however at another point in time.

Dated and obtusely heterosexual, but a good read.
First off, Christopher Hurt did an absolutely incredible job. Most notably his Jubal Harshaw will be the only voice I ever hear in my head when I read this or any other Heinlein book.
Of the book, it shows it age in many ways, but other reviewers online will tell you why certain passages are socially obsolete. That being said, this is a good book. It keeps you engaged. You truly never know what's gonna happen next. The ending falls a little flat, but this book isn't about a climax, it's just the wild ride it takes you on. Recommend.

Better listened to than read
The performance is excellent, and is the better way to get through this text than reading it. Once the Man from Mars scenario is established, there is no real plot:: you get RAH’s opinions delivered through the mouth of Jubal (an excellent notion to voice him with a southern drawl) against early 60s morality. Didn’t care for when it came, never could finish it, and I thank the reader for saving me the trouble. BTW, once Grok becomes a transitive verb, the arrow has missed the mark. Substitute Get It.
