Description

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In Knife of Dreams, the eleventh novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Tarmon Gai'don, the Last Battle, is upon Rand al'Thor—and now the Dragon Reborn must confront the Dark One as humanity's only hope.

The dead are walking, men die impossible deaths, and it seems as though reality itself has become unstable…

Abandoning Rand’s war against the Dark One, Perrin Aybara has made his own truce with the Seanchan in his obsessive quest to save his wife Faile from the Shaido and destroy their mutual enemies. To achieve victory, Perrin must render the Shaido Wise One channelers in Malden powerless. But even as he puts his desperate plan into action, Masema Dagar, the Prophet of the Dragon, moves against him.

Traveling with circus performers through Seanchan-controlled Altara, Mat Cauthon attempts to court Tuon, the Daughter of the Nine Moons, to complete their fateful prophesized marriage. Despite being surrounded by Seanchan seeking to kill her, Mat’s intended leads him on a merry chase while he wages guerrilla warfare to protect her.

Knowing he cannot defeat the Dark One while at war with the Seanchan, Rand brokers for a truce with the Daughter of the Nine Moons. Unaware of Tuon’s actual location, the Dragon Reborn walks into a trap set by the Forsaken Semirhage, who possesses knowledge about his powers that will either shatter or steel his resolve in the forthcoming conflict.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® by Robert Jordan has captivated millions of readers and listeners around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Explodes with motion, as multiple plot lines either conclude or advance, and the march to Tarmon Gai'don, the climactic last battle between the Dragon Reborn and the Dark One, begins in earnest." (Publishers Weekly)

"The battle scenes have the breathless urgency of firsthand experience, and the...evil laced into the forces of good, the dangers latent in any promised salvation, the sense of the unavoidable onslaught of unpredictable events bear the marks of American national experience during the last three decades." (The New York Times)

"Jordan has a powerful vision of good and evil, but what strikes me as most pleasurable...is all the fascinating people moving through a rich and interesting world." (Orson Scott Card)

A breathe of fresh air

Holy cow this book was good! After getting through that horrific slog that is books 7-10, Book 11 was such a breathe of fresh air. The pacing was amazing, the story was actually interesting and the battles were really good. Could not recommend this enough.

Finally!

Finally something happened! The story actually moved forward on all story lines. 300 hundred hours into this series and I finally experienced the interest which I had for the first novel.

struggle to finish

there was way too much women drama in this book for me. needed more adventure, less politics. just my personal opinion.

Another very Long book with very little happening

A little bit happens. more then the last two but you could skip it and not miss anything only one real thing happens but not worth the time and money. I love all RJ books but he really did love hearing himself write after book 5. I knew this as it was the second time around listening The wheel of Time, The books get MUCH better from here on and LOOK we take the good with the bad it's a great series and well worth the long reads because at this point you can't help loving all the characters and there quirks.

Brilliant Entry

Celebrate! The "Filler" Books are done!
Robert Jordan continues to "shuffle" many of the players in his story - various groups of White Cloaks, competing factions among the Aes Sedai, and royal families engaging in "Game Of Houses" maneuvering, for example - but also reintroduces quest-based plotlines ("we'll go this way, you go that way, meet you at the climax") and pitched setpiece battles: tens of thousands of Trollocs and Myrddraal rushing Asha'man forces; Civil War between factions fighting for the Lion Throne; and huge renegade Aiel armies facing down Two-Rivers Folk allied with Seanchan Battalions.
Fireballs, Lightning, Bale Fire, and Earth Eruptions surround well-loved characters in visceral one-on-one combat (Perrin, Mat, and Rand, of course.. but also Thom, Logain, Birgitte, and even Loial). This book includes a ton of heart-pounding action, vivid swords & sorcery imagery, and epic High Fantasy imagination.
The best aspect, however? Jordan is finally (FINALLY) cleaning up a very complicated plot by bringing threads together in preparation for the coming 'Final Battle'.

I admit that I have never read a text copy of 'Knife Of Dreams' - so I can't comment on the "missing" sections that other reviewers lament. I *can*, however, state that I never noticed any deficiencies in the story or interruptions in flow.
Kate Reading and Michael Kramer provide legitimately peerless narration: clear diction & enunciation, comfortable timbre & cadence, interested & emotive tone, and inspired voice-acting repertoires. Enjoy the performance.

Altogether, I welcome the return of those features of the 'Wheel Of Time' epic that made me decide to read the saga to its conclusion in the first place. This installment rates a solid 9 stars out of 10.
