Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Histoire
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid—a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.”

Description
There's a reason We Are Legion (We Are Bob) was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. The first item on his to-do list: Spending his newfound windfall. On an urge to splurge, he signs up to have his head cryogenically preserved in case of death. Then he gets himself killed crossing the street. Waking up 117 years later, Bob discovers his mind has been uploaded into a sentient space probe with the ability to replicate itself. Bob and his clones are on a mission to find new homes for humanity and boldly go where no Bob has gone before.
Dennis E. Taylor’s hilarious novel sets the stage for the magnificent performance of Ray Porter, who revels in the brave new world of corpsicles, artificial intelligence, interstellar space probes, and space colonization in tantalizing detail.
We Are Legion (We Are Bob) is the first installment in the blockbuster Audible Original Bobiverse series - which has sold more than one million copies.
About the Author
Meet the Dennis behind all the Bobs—and the Bobiverse trilogy. Dennis E. Taylor describes himself as a computer programmer by day, a writer by night, and a snowboarder in season. With the phenomenal success of We Are Legion (We Are Bob), he can now devote himself full-time to writing science fiction.
About the Performer
Listener favourite and multiple award-winning narrator Ray Porter delivers an epic performance of discom-Bob-ulation, giving voice to a parade of characters and generations of Bobs. Dennis E. Taylor raves, "Ray Porter is incredible. Honestly he made the book. If I’d been given a different narrator, I’m not sure We Are Legion would have done as well."

Amazing in audio!
Superb performance gives life to each Bob. Engaging story, great if you like sci-fi! Just nerdy enough without getting on your nerves and same for the science-cy bits. It is my first audio book and I honestly did not think I would like it so much.

Incredible storytelling
This novel was well written, descriptive and fascinating. A look into a scarily plausible future where artificial intelligence in a post-apocalyptic Earth leads one man on a quest to save the human race. It’s rife with intrigue, action, geeky science fiction references, humor, and it filled me with both hope and fear. I can’t wait to read the next two!

Unique and arresting.
The first book of the Bobiverse deals with the most interesting problems in the series; while the latter books seem to regard the first half of this novel as the "necessary boring part," that's the part I was most curious about. The science begins relatively hard in this novel but quickly sinks to exceptionally soft sci-fi. This is easily the best book in the series, clearly earning its 5/5 rating while the others sink slightly to a 4. We are Legion is the fastest I've ever read an audiobook, and while the sequels were devoured with similar voracity, I can't help but feel let down by what this masterpiece sets up.
Still, a marvellous series. I'll keep an eye out for Dennis Taylor's other work.

Instantly Hooked!
Within minutes I knew I was going to love this book! Dennis E. Taylor came up with a brilliant and realistic concept for a Sci-fi story line and his fun and surprising little sci-fi pop culture references made my eyes light up with surprise and a little chuckle whenever they popped up. I felt completely connected to the main character (Bob) as I travelled on his journey with him. I was hooked on this book almost immediately and enjoyed it so much I bought the entire series which I also highly recommend! Ray Porter did an incredible job of narrating and brought each character to life with their own accent and voice...he even makes a female character sound real. Dennis E. Taylor is definitely one of my new favourite sci-fi authors - can't wait to read some of his other books. This is definitely one of my favourite sci-fi audible book series and I highly recommend to all!

I tried...
I really wanted to like this book. I really tried. But it just wasn't for me. I found it ridiculous and silly. Maybe it's the genre - I'm not a sci-fi fan. But it had such high ratings!? Oh well...1 credit wasted.
