In the late 20th century, fundamentalism has emerged as one of the most powerful forces at work in the world, contesting the dominance of modern secular values and threatening peace and harmony around the globe. Yet it remains incomprehensible to a large number of people. Best-selling author and renowned religious scholar Karen Armstrong presents a concise and articulate history of Islam, the world's fastest-growing faith. Beginning with the Prophet Muhammad's flight from Medina and concluding with an examination of modern Islamic practices and concerns, Armstrong delivers an unbiased overview. She contends that no religion is more feared and misunderstood by the Western world as Islam, and firmly challenges the notion that these two civilizations are on a collision course.

Histoire
The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Histoire
Few books in history have been as poorly understood as the Qur'an. In this audiobook, the distinguished historian of religion Bruce Lawrence shows precisely how the Qur'an is Islam. He describes the origins of the faith and assesses its influence on today's societies and politics. Above all, he emphasizes that the Qur'an is a sacred book of signs that has no single message. It is a book that demands interpretation and one that can be properly understood only through its history.

Description
Born in 570 CE, he spent six decades spreading his message of peace and compassion. Yet for many people today, their knowledge of Muhammad is rife with misconceptions and misinformation, often fueled by bigotry. Armstrong sets the record straight, shattering the myth that Islam is a religion of cruelty and violence. One of the world's leading religious experts, Armstrong is a deeply respected voice in the continuous struggle for interfaith understanding. Her cogent assessment of Muhammad's genius and insightful summary of his authentic beliefs are priceless in this modern world troubled by religious extremism and intolerance.

Amazing storytelling from the author. Captivated me for the entire length of the book.
I was looking for a book on Prophet Muhammad (s) from a neutral author, an historical POV. Thank you Karen for this great book.

Guillaume is not a real Ibnu Ishaq source!
When she is quoting Ibnu Ishaq's work, she is actually quoting Guillaume - that source happen to have many mistakes and lies about the prophet PBUH and Islam overall.
Another mistake: she interjects her opinion to delude the true teachings of Islam. For instance, she said Islam wasn't sent to mankind, but rather each community can worship whatever they want and we will all go to heaven - advocating "alternative truth," or Jews dont have to convert to Islam etc.
Islam teaches one truth - Hence, if you don't want to believe, is up to you. Chapter 23:53-54: But they tore themselves into sects, Each faction is happy with what they have. So leave them in their bewilderment until time. Maybe she was confused about this chapter...! In my opinion, she did okay with minimum distortions, and agendas.
Just listen to Yasir Qadhi's seerah on YouTube if you need to know the truth about Islam!
