What is Rick Mercer going to do now? That was the question on everyone's lips when the beloved comedian retired his hugely successful TV show after 15 seasons - and at the peak of its popularity. The answer came not long after, when he roared back in a new role as stand-up-comedian, playing to sold-out houses wherever he appeared. And then COVID-19 struck. And his legions of fans began asking again: What is Rick Mercer going to do now? Well, for one thing, he's been writing a comic masterpiece.

Rick Mercer can always be relied on to provoke a strong reaction - but what he said one fall day in 2017 truly shocked Canada. In a rant posted on social media, the great Canadian satirist announced loud and clear that the 15th season of the Rick Mercer Report - the nation's best-watched and best-loved comedy show - would be the last. This volume brings together never-before-published rants from the last five seasons of the show, plus a selection of the very best rants from earlier years.

Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my audiobook, Yearbook for websites and shit like that, so...here it goes!!! Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”) I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like.

Digging deep into her strengths, her failures and her losses, Jann Arden brings us an inspiring account of how she has surprised herself, in her fifties, by at last becoming completely her own person. Like many women, it took Jann a long time to realize that trying to be pleasing and likeable and beautiful in the eyes of others was a loser's game. Letting it rip, and damning the consequences, is not only liberating, it's a hell of a lot of fun: "Being the age I am—that so many women are—is just the best time of my life."

Description
Comedy superstar Mike Myers writes from the (true patriot) heart about his 53-year relationship with his beloved Canada. Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. But, as he says, "No description of me is truly complete without saying I'm a Canadian". He has often winked and nodded to Canada in his outrageously accomplished body of work, but now he turns the spotlight full-beam on his homeland.
His hilarious and heartfelt new book is part memoir, part history, and pure entertainment. It is Mike Myers' funny and thoughtful analysis of what makes Canada Canada and Canadians Canadians and what being Canadian has always meant to him. His relationship with his home and native land continues to deepen and grow, he says. In fact American friends have actually accused him of enjoying being Canadian - and he's happy to plead guilty as charged.
A true patriot who happens to be an expatriate, Myers is in a unique position to explore Canada from within and without. With this, his first book, Mike brings his love for Canada to the fore at a time when the country is once again looking ahead with hope and national pride. Canada is a wholly subjective account of Mike's Canadian experience. Mike writes, "Some might say, 'Why didn't you include this or that?' I say there are 35 million stories waiting to be told in this country, and my book is only one of them."

Love Mike Myers but...
I don’t understand how this seemingly upbeat Canadian can boast the Americans and put down Canadians so much in a book named Canada.
It might be because we’re a year into the pandemic and my patients for the ‘Amazing Americans concept’ has come to an abrupt end (they’re not fairing too well right now) but 45 minutes into this book and I just can’t keep going.
I love Mike Myers but he’s been in the US too long, I have never known one person who admires the Americans this much (and I don’t live under a rock).
So with my venting done, listen to the book and judge for yourself.

Good thing it was free.
I thought this would be something of a memoir and, therefore, at least slightly interesting. No. This is Mike Myers' attempt at a "fun" history of Canada and why Canadians are the way we are. It's ironic that he thinks he knows Canada so well when he moved to the States in 1983. It's a 4 D listen. Dull dull dull and don't bother.

Is this a love letter to the Liberal Party?
Overall it was a good recap of his life, with a few funny stories. His idea is that Canada lacked a "mission statement" and that Pierre Trudeau was attempting to give Canada one. He believe us Canadians lacked an identity. At the end of the book he goes on quite a rant about how terrible Stephen Harper was and how Justin Trudeau is such a saint and gave Canadians a mission statement and identity (laughable!) What started out as a nice story of his life ended as a political advertisement for the Liberal Party.

Meh, disappointing
The title and premise of the book are misleading. Less about Canada than about comparing Canada to the USA. Amusing at times but Myers is definitely no longer a Canadian after emigrating south 30-odd years ago and most of his observations about Canada and our people are very American-centric. At best Toronto-centric, which is hardly representative of this diverse nation. I found myself frequently saying out loud "That isn't true!" He talks about Canadians like we're all a bunch of innocent well-mannered idiots. He explains basic Canadian facts as if to a moron (and makes a few errors) and yet the huge majority of his readers will be Canadians, as he admits many times through the book how patently uninterested Americans are in Canada. He seems to be quite enamored with his Canadian heritage though, without realizing how very American he has become. It was interesting to learn how much of the American comedy industry stemmed from talent funded by Canadian taxpayers.

An American telling Canadians how to live
Mike Myers has not lived in Canada for over 20 years, maybe longer. Before this book I would have definitely counted myself as a Mike Myers fan. First the only people that will read a book called Canada is Canadians. He starts off telling us what is wrong with us. Then goes on to say how Canadians have this big inferiority complex. Torontonians have that complex, and they feel they are superior to the rest of Canada so all Canadians must have that complex. I lived outside of Canada for 17 years and came back for the last 15 and what he is saying is definitely wrong. His prejudice comes out in things like he is surprised to see a good rendition of a musical in Saskatoon. Then he finishes up by telling Canadians to vote for a criminal, and to live under a regime that he himself refuses to live under. Over all this book isn't funny and is equal parts outdated/incorrect views of this country, reminiscences of his youth and propaganda. Save your money. I had this in my queue too long to return in so I had to listen to it, I wish I could get my money back. I would never say American go home, but I would say Mike Myers go home, and it isn't here.
