The Earl of Wrexford possesses a brilliant scientific mind, but boredom and pride lead him to reckless behavior. He does not suffer fools gladly. So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. As their war of words escalates, London's most popular satirical cartoonist, A. J. Quill, skewers them both.

Twenty-six-year-old Beatrice Hyde-Clare is far too shy to investigate the suspicious death of a fellow guest in the Lake District. A spinster who lives on the sufferance of her relatives, she would certainly not presume to search the rooms of her host's son and his friend looking for evidence. Reared in the twin virtues of deference and docility, she would absolutely never think to question the imperious Duke of Kesgrave about anything, let alone how he chose to represent the incident to the local constable. And yet that's exactly what she does.

Description
From USA Today best-selling author Leonard Goldberg comes The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes, a new thrilling tale of the great detective's daughter and her companion, Dr. John Watson Jr., as they investigate a murder at the highest levels of British society.
England, 1914. Joanna Blalock's keen mind and incredible insight lead her to become a highly skilled nurse, one of the few professions that allow her to use her finely tuned brain. But when she and her 10-year-old son witness a man fall to his death, apparently by suicide, they are visited by the elderly Dr. John Watson and his charming, handsome son, Dr. John Watson Jr. Impressed by her forensic skills, they invite her to become the third member of their investigative team.
Caught up in a Holmesian mystery that spans from hidden treasure to the Second Afghan War of 1878-1880, Joanna and her companions must devise an ingenious plan to catch a murderer in the act while dodging familiar culprits, Scotland Yard, and members of the British aristocracy. Unbeknownst to her, Joanna harbors a mystery of her own. The product of a one-time assignation between the now dead Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler, the only woman to ever outwit the famous detective, Joanna has unwittingly inherited her parents' deductive genius.

The daughter of Sherlock Holmes
Leonard Goldberg has brought about a really interesting way to revive Sherlock Holmes, for those of us who miss the fine detective novels of old.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
Well written.
Also thanks to Steve West who did a wonderful job of reading the story.

Couldn't finish it
Can't say the story or the tricks felt original, many cheesy lines & forced romance. The charachaters are boring, & the performance is cold. The concept could've led to a much lively novel, unfortunately not this. So perhaps the following books might have better luck. Unfortunately I was comparing it to Enola Holmes so it could be just my taste & there are people who actually like this kind of rhythm

I like the concept...
I love anything Sherlock Holmes and it is quite fun to read reimaginings or alternate universes. While I do enjoy the mystery in the books (I continued reading on), and the concept in general, I do not enjoy how overly explained everything is. Simple, and rather obvious things are being over-explained to characters who thus far, have seemed smart enough to have figured it out without having it broken down as though they are an infant. It keeps in line with Holmes' own condescending manner but it never felt this...personal, as it continues on it begins to feel quite condescending to the reader as though the Author is implying we cannot understand. Plotlines that could have been dragged out for intrigued are not even explore suddenly a resolution has just appeared, or has happened. Also, why is everyone named John? John Watson, John Watson Jr, Joanna ... which is basically a female John, her first husband was John her son is Johnny. It just feels really lazy. I'm disappointed.

Great deductive reasoning to try to solve a mystery.
This is a historical mystery featuring an update version of a Sherlock Holmes complex mystery. In this version, it is Sherlock’s daughter and Watson’s son. While walking with her son, Sherlock’s daughter see a man fall to his death. Meanwhile the original John Watson and his son, both doctors, are asked to look into the death and see if it was suicide or murder. They go to interview Sherlock’s daughter and grandson. The collaboration begins.
The characters are extremely well crafted and integrated into the overall mystique of the Sherlock story. They had engaging personalities with amazing strengths. They compliment each other so well and engage the reader into their adventure. The story is told from the point of view of the younger Dr. Watson giving insight into his thoughts, feelings, motivation and actions. The narrative allows the reader to visualize the era in which the story takes place. The storyline flows smoothly and quickly. The mystery is full of numerous suspects, multiple baffling clues, danger, dead ends, action, surprises and suspense. An added feature is that the characters are are more well rounded and romance is blooming. This was a wonderful story, well written and I look forward to more books about these characters.
The presentation complimented the story extremely well.
