Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Story
When a series of devastating terror attacks brought down the United States, Conor and Barb assumed they were safe in their compound. They had everything they needed. They were armed and highly trained. But then, Barb was kidnapped. The kidnappers didn’t know why Conor was known as The Mad Mick. They didn’t know the fear and respect his name invoked in the shadowy underworld of covert operations. They didn’t know that when it came to protecting his family, he was without conscience, without compassion, and without equal. But they would soon find out.

North Korea, China, and Iran conspired against the world and used EMP bombs to destroy our grid. This new series starts in the Kentucky / Tennessee part of the US. The grid is down, and people panic as planes fall from the sky and cars stall. The US Government collapses and rogue government groups rise to power. Jack Harp is Cole’s best friend’s father.

Simply Amazing.
I have just finised the 7th book and am about to start the 8th. This is definitely my favourite series of books. If you are any kind of a prepper/survivalist and love a good story, you definitely need to listen to these. Along with a excellent story, there is useful information on survival. And even if you're not, this series has an great story with amazing characters that bring everything together. Duke Fontaine is an amazing narrator and his voice fits this role perfectly. He changes his voice for alot of the characters and I often know who's talking before he even says it. This would make a excellent TV series aswell.

Story ok but hard to listen to
Certainly not the best writing but story like is good. Was hard to follow if you weren’t paying strict attention as it switched from one character to another without any sort of break or indication. In a book there would probably be a wider space to indicate the change but this didn’t have anything.

Vocabulary of a 10 year old
The plot is pretty standard for this genre. And the characters completely cliché.
You need the catalogue of the perfect preppers to understand the enumeration of the gear, tools and weapons. Some survival tips are interesting at least.
But if you care just a little bit about style and literature, this is not worth your time. Not one sentence has more than 12 words in it.
The narrator is good with voices but his style is just like the vocabulary, very poor.
No surprises, nothing interesting here. I can't believe there's a whole series of those books!

Good performance by Duke Fontaine, plausible story but too many shortcuts in the story with way too much product placement and constant rubbing my face in the prepper Kool-Aid.
