Description

Edgar Roy - an alleged serial killer held in a secure, fortress-like Federal Supermax facility-is awaiting trial. He faces almost certain conviction. Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are called in by Roy's attorney, Sean's old friend and mentor Ted Bergin, to help work the case. But their investigation is derailed before it begins-en route to their first meeting with Bergin, Sean and Michelle find him murdered.

It is now up to them to ask the questions no one seems to want answered: Is Roy a killer? Who murdered Bergin? With help from some surprising allies, they continue to pursue the case. But the more they dig into Roy's past, the more they encounter obstacles, half-truths, dead-ends, false friends, and escalating threats from every direction. Their persistence puts them on a collision course with the highest levels of the government and the darkest corners of power. In a terrifying confrontation that will push Sean and Michelle to their limits, the duo may be permanently parted.

Poorly Narrated - Story too over the top.

I've read and listened to more than a few Baldacci novels, so I'm mystified by this poor offering by a talented author. This series does not compare well at all to Baldacci's Memory Man Series. This story is just so unbelievable and far-fetched as to insult the intelligence of the reader. As for the narration, both narrators failed in their ability to differentiate between characters. I found myself confused as to who was who. I admit, Ron McLarty did a better job than Orla Cassidy, but not by much. Cassidy was pitiful. And don't get me started on the sound effects. Overall: Very disappointing.

Very disappointing audible

The storyline in this novel was very ridiculous and unbelievable. The main issue is with the narrators. Ron McCarty wasn’t too bad although the main character, Sean, too often came across as weak and whiny. Orlagh Cassidy was terrible and did a very poor job of portraying Michelle Maxwell, the female protagonist. She came across as childlike, weak and pitiful and not the kind of tough, intelligent exFBI/investigator that the role called for. The sound effects were very distracting and phoney sounding. I sometimes wonder if David Baldacci has ever listened to one of his audibles narrated by these two. I would go so far as saying that I wouldn’t recommend any of his audibles where McClarty and especially Cassidy are the narrators.
