It's not you; it's your schedule. Does it sound like magic? It's not. We've all heard of circadian rhythms - those biological processes that give us jet lag and make us night owls or early birds. But few of us know just how profoundly these diurnal patterns affect our overall health. Bad habits - like skipping meals, squeezing in workouts, working late into the night and then trying to catch up on sleep during the weekend - disrupt our natural cycles. A growing body of research on chronobiology reveals just how sensitive the human body is to these rhythms all the way down to the genetic level.

Histoire
Civilization was born 8,000 years ago, between the floodplains of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, when migrants from the surrounding mountains and deserts began to create increasingly sophisticated urban societies. In the cities that they built, half of human history took place. In Babylon, Paul Kriwaczek tells the story of Mesopotamia from the earliest settlements seven thousand years ago to the eclipse of Babylon in the sixth century BCE. Bringing the people of this land to life in vibrant detail, the author chronicles the rise and fall of power during this period.

Histoire
When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Breakfast of Champions (1973) provides frantic, scattershot satire and a collage of Vonnegut's obsessions. His recurring cast of characters and American landscape was perhaps the most controversial of his canon; it was felt by many at the time to be a disappointing successor to Slaughterhouse-Five, which had made Vonnegut's literary reputation.

Description
Audie Award Winner, Personal Development, 2013
Author Benjamin Hoff shows that the philosophy of Winnie-the-Pooh is amazingly consistent with the principles of Taoism and demonstrates how you can use these principles in your daily life.
Is there such thing as a Western Taoist? Benjamin Hoff says there is, and this Taoist's favorite food is honey. Through brilliant and witty dialogue with the beloved Pooh-bear and his companions, the author of this smash bestseller explains with ease and aplomb that rather than being a distant and mysterious concept, Taoism is as near and practical to us as our morning breakfast bowl. Romp through the enchanting world of Winnie-the-Pooh while soaking up invaluable lessons on simplicity and natural living.
While Eeyore frets and Piglet hesitates and Rabbit calculates and Owl pontificates, Pooh just is. And that's the clue to the secret wisdom of the Taoists.
The Tao of Pooh is an international bestseller and the first Taoist-authored book in history to appear on bestseller lists, it remained on The New York Times’ bestseller list for 49 weeks.

Good listen!
I read this book as a teenager and really enjoyed it. Twenty years later, I’m listening to the audiobook and enjoyed it just as much. The voice acting isn’t as good as some other audiobooks but it’s still good and the lessons the book offers are as true as ever.

Pretty good book
Very good at basically explaining the way of life.
A little exaggerated at times but done so in a way to really hammer in the message.
Overall a joyful book, very funny at times, and a must read for anyone looking to know the way.

A lovely, relaxing, insightful experience
Having taken a few lessons on the Tao, I thought this would be a great accompaniment. Using the characters from the Hundred Acre Wood, the author beautifully and humorously lays out the main ideas of the Tao. There’s a surprising number of parallels and lessons to be drawn from Pooh and his friends!
Well written and wonderfully narrated. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it and will revisit it in the future.

The wise know their limitations...
Favourite quote(s):
“You can't save time. You can only spend it, but you can spend it wisely or foolishly.”
“The wise know their limitations; the foolish do not.”
Written in 1982, this book teaches us that a spiritual path can be traversed in the most mundane, day-to-day activities.
For anyone delving into, or a little deeper into Taoism, this is a great launching pad as it is easily relatable and is written around the travels of Winnie the Pooh.
Taoism holds that humans and animals should live in balance with the Tao, or the universe.
Taoist thought focuses on genuineness, longevity, health, immortality and vitality.
Was it a bit over my head?
Yup.
Was it enlightening to learn something new and stop to think about things holistically along the journey of reading this?
Yup.
