Histoire
Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the grandest epics in the annals of imaginative literature. Now Herbert's son, Brian, working with Kevin J. Anderson and using Frank Herbert's own notes, reveals a pivotal epoch in the history of the Dune universe: the Butlerian Jihad, the war that was fought ten thousand years before the events of Dune - the war in which humans wrested their freedom from "thinking machines."

Paul, like nearly every great conqueror, has enemies - those who would betray him to steal the awesome power he commands. Paul himself begins to have doubts: Is the jihad getting out of his control? Has he created anarchy? Has he been betrayed by those he loves and trusts the most? And most of all, he wonders: Am I going mad?

A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals—in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg—whose true name is hidden from all he and Dunk encounter. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits. Featuring more than 160 all-new illustrations by Gary Gianni, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn’t dead—yet.

A must read
while some reviews may dislike this novel because it's essentially just an epilogue do not let that deter you this is a must read with a great plot surrounding a conspiracy, politics and religion and starts to setup what is to come next in next 4 novels.

Not Sure
This whole theme concludes book one well. However, it feels thin in actual plot. The philosophy here is a little thick for my taste and it feels almost nihilistic. Interesting sci-fi ideas keep me hooked, but just barely this time. The performances are unobtrusive. I like Euan Morton now. Narrators do swap character roles but it is not jarring like it has been in previous productions.

Pedantic and boring
The narrators are amazing, but after Dune this book is downright boring. Barely any action

Slow - strange full cast
This is really a bridge book between 1 and 3. It's fairly short which is nice because there isn't a terribly large amount of plot. Willing to read it to get on with the better books in the series later.
My issue is the narration. It's weird - full cast is awesome, and the individual narrators are great, but how it's laid out is curious. Each actor reads a whole chapter, meaning that their voices of each character are different and it's hard to keep track of who's talking. I think better would have been to have each actor read one or two voices consistently throughout the book.

medieval
The politics, the plotting, the conspiracy is very reminiscent of a medieval storyline.
I thoroughly enjoyed the break down of Paul, how, in the first book his rise to power and the very satisfying ending with the emperor. then, to the scheming of his enemies to overthrow and destroy him through his love.
I can see why this book is so polarizing to many. the patience required and the cerebral narrative. particularly for younger readers, this book, the philosophical themes, the takes on religion and government and how, specifically, leadership should be questioned especially from a hero leader... it will tickle them the wrong way.
well worth the read.

Great listen!
I wish they just used one voice actor the whole time. I find it irritating when the sound of a characters voice switches.
The book can be slow at times but I found the end super suspenseful and fun. I would recommend if you enjoyed the first book. About to start up children of Dune and could not be more excited :)

Not the best book in the series
The first book is much longer, and better than this one. Dune Messiah has a very linear story, lacking a strong side story or mystique to it. I found the second book in the Dune series to be boring.
Nevertheless, the third book is much better, so it’s worth getting through it.

Feels like an afterthought or cash grab
IMO it detracts from the Dune universe set up in the first novel. The introduction of face-dancers and fish-like navigators makes this feel less like a realistic depiction of a possible future and more like a fantasy novel. It adds little to nothing to the themes of the first book, and Herbert really crawls up his own butt with the ever-more-convoluted "prescience" concept. The story feels meaningless, and it does not have a satisfying ending like Dune.
Overall, it feels like an afterthought - something only written to cash in on the success of the first.
