Description

Primetime Propaganda is the story of how television has been used over the past 60 years by Hollywood writers, producers, actors, and executives to promote their liberal ideals, to push the envelope on social and political issues, and to shape America in their own leftist image.

In this thoroughly researched and detailed history of the television industry, the conservative columnist and best-selling author Ben Shapiro argues that left-leaning entertainment kingpins in Los Angeles and New York have leveraged - and continue to use - their positions and power to push liberal messages and to promote the Democratic Party while actively discriminating against their opponents on the right. According to Shapiro, television isn't just about entertainment - it's an attempt to convince Americans that the social, economic, and foreign policy shaped by leftism is morally righteous.

But don't take his word for it. Shapiro interviewed more than 100 of the industry's biggest players, including Larry Gelbart (M*A*S*H), Marta Kauffman (Friends), David Shore (House), and Mark Burnett (Survivor). Many of these insiders boast that not only is Hollywood biased against conservatives, but that many of the shows being broadcast have secret political messages. After hearing this groundbreaking exposé, listeners will never watch television the same way again.

So boring

Its just a list of actors, producers, directors and writers who are liberal. The author offers no information about what is wrong except for using a snide tone to describe shows that celebrate diversity rather than hate on anyone who doesn't live in a nuclear family.

Conservative Perspective with a Liberal Listener

I'm a pretty hardcore liberal, and a lot of the shows the author mentions and critiques are shows that I grew up with and loved. I am in a younger generation, so a good number of the shows I had never seen or sometimes even heard of. However, despite not necessarily agreeing with his perspective, I found Shapiro had well researched and thought provoking arguments, and clearly he did a fair bit of journalistic research and interviews. I breezed through the book within a week, despite its length, enjoying every chapter and unique critique. I would recommend it to those on the left and the right, because even as a liberal, I was able to note his concerns and start to see how the skew of Hollywood could influence our culture and society.

Well researched informative book

This book was really well researched and very informative. Ben makes great points about the culture of the left in Hollywood and how they intentionally demonize conservative view points. I love how he ties it back together at the end and encourages both sides to come together in order to save television.

Who knew the left started so long ago. Will never think of the TV I grew up with the same.

A fantastic and even-handed take on hollywood

A fantastic and even handed take on Hollywood's liberal bias. Criticizes without insulting, and also recognizes the talents of hardcore leftist creators.

this was a minor issue. Other wise highly recommended

Detailed and well researched

This book provides a detailed and well researched account of the influence of liberal politics on television programs. The author conducted interviews with many of the key players in many of the most popular programs. The weakness of the book is that it doesn't spend much time on an alternative approach. It also doesn't give credit to TV for improving the acceptance of minorities, which is surely a value anyone should embrace.

offers examples

Shapiro offers examples for the assertions that he makes, giving the reader a chance to evaluate if they concur with his conclusions.

The performance was good but a little flat.
