Description

One of the ones to just bare in the storyline
As always Gareth Armstrong makes this story captivating through his performance but I'm not sure even that was enough to save this bland story. was a bit of a struggle to stay focused in on this one.

Battle for Calth!
A good read/listen for fans of either the Ultramarines or the Word Bearers. A pivotal moment in the Horus Heresy and one of the must reads for the storyline. The narrator brought the story and characters to life. Overall quite good but I personally find the Ultramarines to be so impersonal and quite bland as characters go. They almost sound like the mechanicum when they speak half the time. This is the way they are designed within the Warhammer universe and is by no means any fault of the writer who does an excellent job.
I would still highly recommend the book.

Great story but in parts the audio skips
Great story epic reader but the audio has gaps so it annoyed the hell out of me . fix it and its perfect

Outstanding work of science fiction
Betrayal strikes... But what is the purpose of such an action in war? The element of surprise is achieved but at what cost and to what end? Some betrayals are planned decades in advance, others happen in the blink of an eye. Filled with captivating dialogue, a robust array of characters, and riveting depictions of combat - this is a must have not only for fans of the Horus Heresy but for science fictionsl fans everywhere.

Where Are The Astartes?
I'm sorry to be blunt, but the narration in this is just so off the mark (pun!) it bothered me the whole time. Abnett's writing is masterful as always, but the audio portrayal of the Ultramarines and Word Bearers sounded nothing like Adeptus Astartes. The Ultramarines Chapter Masters and Officers sounded like nasally British Army junior officers, not 8 foot tall, several hundred pound killers who came up through the ranks fighting decades upon decades of war. So too with the Word Bearers; they sounded like sniveling aristocrats, not grimdark zealous genetically enhanced warrior-mystics.
As a contrast, I refer you to Apocalypse read by Richard Reed, who masterfully acts out the voices of characters from no less than 3 different Chapters and one Chaos Legion - that Legion being the Word Bearers. It's quite something. No disrespect to the narrator here, better than I could do and I'm sure he makes a good living and, in all fairness, Guilliman and normal humans were portrayed quite well, especially the rank and file Imperial Army...but I didn't hear a single Space Marine the whole time while listening to No Know Fear.

This story is written in the present tense
A good story overall but it reads like a screenplay instead of using past tense like other titles in the series

Great story as expected of Dan Abnett

I just wanted it to keep going..
They could have done 20 hours of this book and I would have hung on every word still looking for more. Must read.

Hated Marines before this book
Now I own 3000 points of Ultras... for Calth!
This is some top notch narration, a bit confusing at first but oh so worth it. God I hate lorgar.
