Description

In honor of the 10-year anniversary of The Heroin Diaries, Nikki Sixx's definitive and best-selling memoir on drug addiction is now available on audio for the first time, read by Nikki Sixx! This shocking, gripping, and at times darkly hilarious memoir explores Nikki's yearlong war with a vicious heroin addiction. Now more than ever, with opioid addiction ravaging our country and rising by 20 percent in the past year alone, Nikki's story of both his descent into drug-addled decay and subsequent recovery and transition into a rehabilitation advocate is now more relevant than ever.

When Mötley Crüe was at the height of its fame, there wasn't any drug Nikki Sixx wouldn't do. He spent days - sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers - in a coke and heroin-fueled daze.

The highs were high, and Nikki's journal entries reveal some euphoria and joy. But the lows were lower, often ending with Nikki in his closet, surrounded by drug paraphernalia and wrapped in paranoid delusions.

Here, Nikki shares the diary entries - some poetic, some scatterbrained, some bizarre - of those dark times.

Brutally honest, utterly riveting, and surprisingly moving, The Heroin Diaries follows Nikki during the year he plunged to rock bottom - and his courageous decision to pick himself up and start living again.

Loved it!

I was never really a huge Motley Crue fan to be honest, but I was very intrigued with Nikki Sixx's story. My respect level went up hardcore for him. Well done, Nikki! Keep on keepin' on!

Crazy Story

It would have been fun for a week!!!! It is weird that people will gravitate to such a crazy story, but it can help those down in the gutter. By the end of the book i was happy I listened to his story.

Couldn’t Stop Listening !

This is an excellent book. From start to finish - I’ll be listening to it again for sure. You don’t have to be an addict to connect with so many things in this book. Loved it and found it really helpful.

Sometimes tears of sadness, anger and compassion

I had read the book when it first came out. I wanted to know some of the “ins and outs “of someone who I had posters on my wall of. I had always heard tales of the “rock and roll” lifestyle but never really had a grasp of it...I still don’t but man, is this ever a crazy ride. Hearing Nikki read it in this audiobook is like a horrible dream/nightmare come true. As someone who has only seen people suffer from addiction in my family but never been a sufferer myself, it filled me with an immense sense of empathy and sadness. I celebrate anyone who has been an addict and managed to continue on and find their voice. To fight their way back. You are heroes and you are loved. I see you. We see you. You are important and you are beautiful ❤️

Great to hear Nikki Sixx read his story.

This book will help anyone struggling with any form of drug addiction. The best book I have ever read on the subject. I had told my teens parts of the story. They won't be trying drugs any time soon.

What an awesome journey!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a true portrait of rock star excesses, as well as how far people who are addicted will drag themselves thorugh the much. As Nikki says... The dying is easy, It's the living that seems impossible when it's time to sober up!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heroin Diaries: 10 Year Anniversary Edition?

Hearing about Nikki coming to my hometown and the things he did there.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

That it was the author.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Any additional comments?

What an inspiration. Nikki is one of my all time true hero's. I play bass, and too have kicked "THE" habit. I am forever in his debt. This book has helped me more than I could even explain sitting here writing an e book review!

How The Sausage is Made

Where do I begin? I will start with the audio info. Listening to Sixx read was awesome. I love when an author reads their memoirs or biographies. I had to give this audiobook 2 stars because the female voice here was beyond awful. It was so disgraceful to have such a terrible voice!

Onto the book:

I'll start with my expectations. I read this because I am a huge Motley Crue fan. I was 12 when I stumbled upon their music and I have loved it ever since. Through the years, I've followed them and knew about the drugs, the drinking, all the news worthy bad stuff. But I was curious about this book. I am not an addict or alcoholic, so I was afraid I wouldn't relate or I would learn things I didn't really want to know. I was right about both points.

As far a literary read, this isn't it. This is really a diary with input from people who Nikki Sixx wronged along the way. I had to adjust my expectations.

I was really shocked at how bad things were for Nikki Sixx and really the rest of Motley and their fellow musicians. I had no idea. I was actually a bit angry for the first leg of this book. I saved my allowance in a tootsie roll bank for every magazine, record, and concert ticket I could buy. I worked odd jobs, and even babysat a few times, which I hated. I worked hard for that money and it was literally flushed down the toilet in the form of heroin.

I got over that feeling. And onto a feeling I didn't expect: disgust. The way women were treated (And most jumped at the change to be treated that way, so I was angry with them as well.) was shocking. Nikki Sixx's view of women was awful then. And the fans sure didn't matter either. So I was angry about that.

I got over myself. I felt for Nikki and his life. He is painfully honest in this book. I was really grossed out. I felt like I need penicillin after reading this book.

The entries go on for a while and it gets monotonous and boring. As a reader, I yearned for more substance. I had to remind myself that this is a diary. I found Sixx a bit bragadocious. I think for me as a fan, I couldn't get over how much I loved them and how much they hated themselves. That's a hard thing for me to process. They were so unlikeable at a time when I adored them.

Here's the thing about reading memoirs. You learn how the sausage is made. Sometimes it's not what we, the readers, expect. That can be good or bad. Here, it's sad. It's so sad. And it was not just one shattered rock star, but everyone in the business. I felt sad. I felt frustrated. Did I mention it was sad?

I will say this as well - family sucks sometimes. Nikki Sixx sure wasn't the only kid that got crapped on as a child. And that is no excuse to get into drugs and become a sexist. He might not be one now, but he sure was when he was high. That hurt, too. So many of us experienced a betrayal of a parent and didn't go there. This book explains why he got hooked, and stayed that way. Addiction starts somewhere.

Hopefully Sixx will stay sober. I hope so. This is a sad book. It's honest and graphic, maddening and, well, all the feels are here. I love how he has turned his life around and I hope his life remains that way.

Eye opening

Any additional comments?

I've always like Motley Crue's music, but due to being born in the late 80's, I wasn't able to experience them when they were at their height. To me, Crue was Vince and Tommy. This book opened my eyes to the real wheel behind Motley Crue, and the demons that haunted (or hunted) him.

The journey Nikki takes in that year is amazing. I couldn't stop listening.

Nope!

Unless you're a fan, this book is boring. The author comes off as an ungrateful, Narcissistic, sexually abusive, sexist, ungrateful, abusive, creep. I know people who have had FAR worse childhoods and this author tells a story of waste, disrespect, and me, me, AND me....Well, this book was NOT for ME.

Nikki Sixx is the most influential celebrities!!!!

I have both read and listened to this book time after time, and also plan on to more times to come. I am not a person who reads books often but I can relate somewhat to it so it keeps me inspired.

Perfectly done

Can’t believe how good this book is. 10/10 I related so much to that he was saying about his childhood. Sad and had me feeling so bad at points and fully gripped by the stories.

Nikki Sixx & Co. Reveal Their Deepest...

Nikki Sixx reveals his deepest, darkest secrets in this Anniversary edition of his Heroin Diaries. Hearing him update it all the way to 2017 is beyond words great, uplifting, hopeful and miraculous. Through all the sex, drugs, rock and roll and more drugs mayhem which led to his death twice, he showed how if you blame your childhood and parents, you'll never truly be happy. Once he stopped blaming, he stopped drugs, forgave all and transformed to a 100% life and habits. If you have any major struggles in life, listening to this book will help.

Nikki as the main reader was spectacular as was voice over actor Ross Marquand. Both brought their all to voicing this and deserve major kudos. The only stumbling block to me was the voice over actor Sophie. While I'm not debating her talent, I do think she was miscast. Her voice grew annoying very quickly with all the grating qualities of the typical millineal and didn't have the sex appeal or gravitas needed to play Vanity/Denise Matthews and the many other women throughout Nikki's life that gave their own words to the book. Ross was able to transform his voice brilliantly, changing it up to the various people he inhabited. Sophie? Not even close.

Otherwise, the book was perfection and I'll never forget it. Major respect to Nikki for transforming his life in every single way to one that is today healthy, vibrant, sane, loving, intellectual, loyal, drug free and an artistic genius.
