After seven long years of conflict, the Horus Heresy nears its end. But now, as the Warmaster Horus marches on Terra to rip his father from the Throne, the seat of the arch-traitor’s power lies empty. Cthonia, a world once dominated by brutal murder-gangs, is occupied by the Emperor’s praetorians—the indomitable Imperial Fists. For the Sons of Horus, this outrage demands a reckoning.

Histoire
After seven years of bitter war, the end has come at last for the conflict known infamously as the Horus Heresy. Terra now lies within the Warmaster’s sights, the Throneworld and the seat of his father’s rule. Horus’ desire is nothing less than the death of the Emperor of Mankind and the utter subjugation of the Imperium. He has become the ascendant vessel of Chaos and amassed a terrible army with which to enact his will and vengeance. But the way to the Throne will be hard as the primarch Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian and protector of Terra, marshals the defences.

Fell times have come to the galaxy. Cadia has fallen, destroyed by the onslaught of Chaos. A Great Rift in the warp has opened, and from its depths spew daemons and the horrors of Old Night. But all hope is not lost… A hero, long absent, has returned, and with him comes the wrath of the Ultramarines reborn. Roboute Guilliman has arisen to lead the Imperium out of darkness on a crusade the likes of which has not been seen since the fabled days of the Emperor. But never before have the forces of Ruin amassed in such numbers, and nowhere is safe from despoliation.

Description
A Horus Heresy Novel
Censured at the Council of Nikea for his flagrant use of sorcery, Magnus the Red and his Legion retreat to their homeworld to continue their use of the arcane arts in secret.
Listen to it because
One of the most tragic tales of the entire Horus Heresy unfolds as the Thousand Sons are brought low by their relentless quest for knowledge. Magnus is sure that he knows better than the Emperor – but isn't that what caused Horus to fall as well?
The story
Censured at the Council of Nikea for his flagrant use of sorcery, Magnus the Red and his Thousand Sons Legion retreat to their homeworld of Prospero to continue their use of the arcane arts in secret. When the ill-fated primarch foresees the treachery of Warmaster Horus and warns the Emperor with the very powers he was forbidden to use, the Master of Mankind dispatches fellow primarch Leman Russ to attack Prospero itself. But Magnus has seen more than the betrayal of Horus – and the witnessed revelations will change the fate of his fallen Legion, and its primarch, forever.

Great Story, Poor Narrator.
this review is simply an echo of all the others. great story, but the Narrator was not good at all. At some points very hard to understand (although for me it wasnt that often) my biggest complaint with the narration was the lack of voice changes for characters.... for all characters to have a different voice I understand would be hard, but shouldve been present for the main as it was at times very hard to identify when the individual speaking had changed resulting in having to rewind and listen to sections sometimes multiple times so I could follow the story. the story itself was amazing, I loved it. Narration wasnt the worst I've heard, but definitely could have been better.

Horribly narration
The story is fantastic but the narrator's tone and cadence completely ruin it. He often pauses mid sentence for no reason and says things as if they are questions.

Long, boring with bits of back-breaking fun.
If this book was cut in half with a much smaller cast of characters, I could see this being a good one but my goodness does it drag. The third act is fun, and redeems some of the holy-moly boring parts. If you can borrow, read the Council scene and the third act and then close it without looking back.

A wonderful sense of doom.
I really liked how this book sets up the thousand sons and the fall of Magnus as inevitable. It’s really well done.
What I don’t like is how unbelievably, cartoonishly evil the space wolves are. I get that they are the big antagonists in the story but I find it hard to believe that the imperium would tolerate a group of very expensive super soldiers howling at each other like animals and decorating themselves with bits of bone mid battle. They’re just silly.

A slow burn with a hot ending
in the beggining it was slow and it took me a while to get through the first couple of hours. Then the last 5 I couldn't stop listening it was a wonderful ending. awesome set up and now I want to look up more about the planet they ended on and where exactly it is.

A nice entry for Magnus
I think after reading this I understand far more why things happened in the hours heresy. Performance was great and the structure of the novel was excellent, I very much enjoyed how they portrayed the relationship of Big E and Magnus.

great background on the thousand son's
great story told frommthe thousand son's point of view gives a lot of context to why they are the way they are . and makes you the reader feel sorry for them. everything they do for the right reasons even if it is inevitably wrong
