A landmark publication full of startling revelations, the book indelibly alters our image of this most enigmatic capitalist. Born the son of a flamboyant, bigamous snake-oil salesman and a pious, straitlaced mother, Rockefeller rose from rustic origins to become the world’s richest man by creating America’s most powerful and feared monopoly, Standard Oil. Branded "the Octopus" by legions of muckrakers, the trust refined and marketed nearly 90 percent of the oil produced in America.

Description
Meet a genuine American folk hero cut from the homespun cloth of America's heartland: Sam Walton, who parlayed a single dime store in a hardscrabble cotton town into Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world. The undisputed merchant king of the late 20th century, Sam never lost the common touch.
Here, finally, inimitable words. Genuinely modest, but always sure of his ambitions and achievements. Sam shares his thinking in a candid, straight-from-the-shoulder style. In a story rich with anecdotes and the "rules of the road" of both Main Street and Wall Street, Sam Walton chronicles the inspiration, heart, and optimism that propelled him to lasso the American Dream.

Fantastic book. GREAT narrator!
The narrator often makes or breaks the book. This narrator did an excellent job and was a superb choice.
An inspiring story of hard work and dedication. It's stories like this that keep me pushing on in business endeavours!
This book is right up there with The Snowball and Shoe Dog which were great reads (actually read these two. If you are turned off by the narrator on The Snowball definitely go read it. It's Ana amazing book but that narrator murders it...in a bad way lol).

Sam Walton was a man who loved his country, company, employees, customers, and family. He showed his love mostly in his actions. A giant of giants, yet humble from beginning to end. He ran purely on love of what he did. Wonderful book, with good insight into his life.

The performance was outstanding. The narrator demonstrated the energy and enthusiasm of the author himself. It felt like the author was reading the book. The best performance by a narrator other than the author that I've listened to in my 15 years as an audible platinum subscriber. And the story was incredible.

Great Story
It’s an autobiography so I feel it didn’t dive too deep into any of the negatives of Sam’s life and the fact that he died before Amazon became a competitor made the book feel like it was missing something but more or less it was a great inspirational story about breaking the rules and doing what most aren’t willing to do.

More about Walmart promotion than Sam Walton
This ghostwritten plug for Walmart is not about Sam Walton the man nor his life. It is about how wonderful and innovative Walmart was in changing the world, for the better of course.
