Seventeenth-century England, and a plough uncovers a grisly skull in the furrows of a farmer's field. Something evil is stirring in the woods. Something that is corrupting the village youth, who retreat to the woodland deeps to play their pernicious games. Can the villagers, led by the Squire Middleton (Mark Gatiss) and Reverend Fallowfield (Reece Shearsmith), prevent the devil gaining human form?

A faithful retelling of a Folk Horror Classic

The Blood on Satan's Claw, when it was first released in 1971, was not a smash hit, and lived in relative obscurity until 2010, when Mark Gatiss gave it a glowing and loving segment in his BBC series A History of Horror. Fitting then, that he, and one of his League of Gentlemen alum, should star in an audio remake of the now Cult Classic Folk Horror film.
The acting, sound design, and score in this audio drama are phenomenal. It transports you to the 18th Century English Countryside with ease, and expertly lays on the unease and terror. I was very excited to see that this was something that was not only made, but seemingly had enough demand to justify it's creation. If you are a fan of Folk Horror, superb audio production, and nuanced, thoughtful, and powerful vocal performances, this is the adaptation for you. I sincerely hope this crew gets together again to do another adaptation, or wholly original audio work.

A ridiculous story. Don’t bother.

The reading was well done and I am sorry they didn’t have anything interesting to read. Demon possession horror with no plot, no character development, no hero. Boring, predictable and lots of annoying screaming.
