Description

Too many discipleship books are written for clean, perfect people who know all the right Sunday school answers. The Imperfect Disciple is for the rest of us - people who screw up, people who are weary, people who are wondering if it's safe to say what they're really thinking.

For the believer who is tired of quasi-spiritual lifehacks being passed off as true, down-and-dirty discipleship, here is a discipleship book that isn't afraid to be honest about the mess we call real life. With incisive wit, warm humor, and moving stories, Jared Wilson shows listeners how the gospel works in them and in their lives when:

  • They can't get their act together
  • They think God is giving them the silent treatment
  • They think church would be better without all the people
  • They're not happy with the person in the mirror
  • And much more

Wilson frees listeners from the self-doubt and even the misplaced self-confidence they may feel as they walk with Jesus down the often difficult road of life. The result is a faith that weathers storms, lifts burdens, and goes forth to make more imperfect disciples.

A Must Read or Listen!

There are so many great things
about this book! I providentially
started listening to this book after experiencing a 'discipleship fail'.
This book contains THE PERFECT MESSAGE for anyone who needs encouragement when their walk
with God had gotten messy, are discouraged, depressed and full of despair. But you don't have to be 'down' to appreciate its wonderful hope-filled content. One can also start it when all is bright with not a cloud in the sky and be blessed by the practical wisdom, insight and tremendous encouragement of the author on the Christian life. I very highly recommend this book to every single Christian no matter where you are on your journey with God!
And the narrator is P-E-R-F-E-C-T!

A refreshing reaquaintance with the gospel.

No punches pulled and the Gospel presented in a way that speaks to the gritty sinful aloofness we all sink to as believers trying to attain a measure of our own righteousness with our worthless currency of effort.

Christ supplies all the righteousness we need and this book is an apt reminder of God's complete answer to our neediness.

Deep thoughts in an easily digestible format

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I was impressed by the depth of the theology and the accessibility of the writing. This is worth multiple listens/reads.

Encouragement for the Everyday Christian

Christian brother or sister, you are loved by the God of the universe. No matter what you do, you are loved. This is the theme of this short, but important book about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. We don't need to be perfect, ever. We don't need to have it all together, ever. We just need to be repentant and seeking to follow the Lord in our day to day lives.

Consider giving this one a listen if you're feeling discouraged. God will use it to lift you up.

Thanks, Jared, for a lovely little bit of grace reminding.

A Concise and Accessible Reminder

Wilson's writing style is conversational and simple, making following along a breeze. His illustrations and examples are sermon material- relatable in the best way.

you don't have your act together and that's ok

great book. I would highly recommend. I have struggled from the very outset of my conversion, to believe that Christ loves me and not just what I can do for Him, or my ability to get it all together. He loves me.

Postmodern undertones

For Americans today, postmodernism is simply the water we swim in, and for many, it can be extremely difficult to recognize. Yet from his praise of Ta Nehisi Coates to his exhortation to “feel” the Bible, Jared Wilson muddles the objective beauty and truth of the gospel message with postmodern experientialism. While the gospel message is still evident in this book, the human experience and emotion is given far greater weight than the revelation of God for this books foundation. I highly recommend reading this book with eyes wide open to the philosophy of the day.

Very insightful

I really enjoyed this book it's very helpful to me in a season where I was not able to get my act together. breathing through this book help set me on my path that lead to repentance only one negative for me.. normally little things don't bother me.. I'm sorry but I don't *Lerve* anything. I know the point he was making but he lost me with that a little bit.

My favorite book this year.

I average three books a month on Audible, and I do a mix of theology, current events, and history. This is now one of the most important books I’ve ever read. It’s one of my favorite books for 2019. This will be one of the ones that I revisit several times in the next month or two. Thank you Jared Wilson.
