They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Description
Never before available on unabridged audio! Dexter's Michael C. Hall reads this classic horror story described by Publishers Weekly as the "most frightening novel Stephen King has ever written".
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic, rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Yet despite Ludlow's tranquility, there's an undercurrent of danger that lingers...like the graveyard in the woods near the Creeds' home, where generations of children have buried their beloved pets.
Behind the "pet sematary", there is another burial ground, one that lures people to it with seductive promises...and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there - one more terrifying than death itself and hideously more powerful. An ominous fate befalls anyone who dares tamper with this forbidden place, as Louis is about to discover for himself....
Ce que les critiques en disent
"The narrator is Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"), who can now add an Earphones Award to his resume.... Hall's narration captures the surprising humanity found on the page, but his voice becomes appropriately grim as the story barrels toward the inevitable darkness." (AudioFile)

A Great Book with Great Narration
This book is always a great read, with an instant atmosphere that takes over whenever you click play. The themes of death and how "sometimes, dead is better" and the idea of how much do you know you really know your partner, family, and friends really keep the story intriguin during and slower moments. The characters are likeable and empathetic, and the dark tones turn unsettling when they need to. Though the film does a better portrayal of the kills and how menacing they are coming from a 3 year old, the book is able to have Gage say the twisted things that only someone buried at the Mic Mack burial ground could know. The narration from Micheal C. Hall was great, especially his Jud Crandal accent that was essential to read for his character. Though I find the pacing to be quite good in most the book, I found that once Luis went back to Pleasentville to retrieves Gages missing body, the story slows down and becomes and little disjointed. Once Gage is buried in the Mic Mack burial ground, I feel the story is rushed to the end; where I enjoyed the movies ending over the books though they're almost identical. The book is a definite read for any Stephen King and Horror fan, and more than a definite read to anyone whose only seen the movie. Its quick and refreshing, and should be checked out.

Far more chilling than the 1989 movie!
I was hesitant to read this book after watching the original movie. The original film did not grasp/scare me (mostly because I have become spoiled by modern FX). This book however, was fantastic and chilling! Definitely worth a read, even if you did not enjoy the original movie. The performance was great 10/10 would purchase again.

One of King’s best works
Pet Semetary is one of King’s best books. It is genuinely very engaging from a storytelling perspective. It’s characters are very vivid and fully realized. It builds suspense extremely naturally and when it gets to its inevitable conclusion you are completely invested. I’ve read this book so many times and I am still humbled by the master work King weaves in this tale of dread.
Pet Semetary is easily one of the first books I recommend to people wanting to enjoy Stephen King’s work. I consider it easily in his top 5. It helps that this audiobook in particular is narrated by Michael C. Hall who does a brilliant job personifying the various characters. Especially the main character’s neighbour Judd.
Overall, highly recommended. It holds up very well to its cinematic adaptations.

Spooky and well recorded!
Very thrilling and creepy story, first time reading it. Have been getting into spooky audiobooks lately. Loved the Micheal C Hall aspect of it too, kind of kept imagining him as his Dexter character! I could feel the acting with the story telling, very well done.

No other book scares me this much
The last review hit the nail on the head, it’s a perfection of horror. I’ve been into horror books and movies my whole life and am a big fan of Stephen King, and nothing scares me as much as this book. It’s by far my favourite of his. You want to stop, but then another even bigger part of you wants to keep going! The narrator does an incredible job with the writing.

King by Dexter. Epic
As a huge fan of the TV series Dexter, I was fascinated by the idea of listening to a horror book narrated by Michael C. Hall. His narration is fantastic, and when he imitates some child voices, he makes the story even creepier! I highly recommend it if you enjoy horror books.
