Description

Book three in the number-one New York Times best-selling Trials of Apollo series

The formerly glorious god Apollo, cast down to earth in punishment by Zeus, is now an awkward mortal teenager named Lester Papadopoulos. In order to regain his place on Mount Olympus, Lester must restore five Oracles that have gone dark. But he has to achieve this impossible task without having any godly powers and while being duty-bound to a confounding young daughter of Demeter named Meg. Thanks a lot, Dad.

With the help of some demigod friends, Lester managed to survive his first two trials, one at Camp Half-Blood, and one in Indianapolis, where Meg received the Dark Prophecy. The words she uttered while seated on the Throne of Memory revealed that an evil triumvirate of Roman emperors plans to attack Camp Jupiter. While Leo flies ahead on Festus to warn the Roman camp, Lester and Meg must go through the Labyrinth to find the third emperor - and an Oracle who speaks in word puzzles - somewhere in the American Southwest. There is one glimmer of hope in the gloom-filled prophecy: The cloven guide alone the way does know. They will have a satyr companion, and Meg knows just who to call upon....

Ce que les critiques en disent

"Just as he has been for the previous two audiobooks in Riordan's Trials of Apollo series, narrator Robbie Daymond is wholly in sync with Apollo's voice.... Daymond creates individual voices for the large cast of supporting characters, including satyr guide Grover, demigod Meg, and dryad Aloe, and listeners will find it hard to press pause as he delivers every twist and turn in Apollo's continuing adventures." Not Sure How I Feel!

First off I liked the story but there was a drastic change in this installment. Book was much darker than I was expecting not that it was a bad thing but I did cry several times and that’s what has me feeling lost. Still I will be eagerly awaiting the next book. Oh yes and Apollo is still whiny but he is growing up.

Monotonous

I dont know if it's the story or performer, and I know it's a single pov, but the book and series portion is very slow. all characters seem the same.

My son loves it, but I can't pay attention. We've listened to every myth series available by Riordan, and this is the only one I legitimately dislike.

Where’s the fun?

I have read every book in the series, starting way back when with Percy Jackson. This one was a letdown. It dragged on and on. Apollo whined more and more. And the two significant deaths still depressed me. Not the enjoying read that I expect from Rick Riordan. The best parts were the clever chapter titles, and the narration.

This book gets a bit real.

Readers beware this story gets a bit real and has some actual consequences to Apollo's choices. Pretty decent story.

Not sure if it's me or Apollo...

I thoroughly enjoyed the Percy Jackson series...I absolutely loved the Kane Chronicles...I was a huge fan of the Heroes of Olympus series...This series and the 2nd and 3rd installments of Magnus Chase have lost me...I have found The Trials of Apollo just plain silly more often than not and its attempts at incorporating all pop culture a bit overreaching...In the previous series' mentioned before, Rick did a good job of humanizing "gods" but still allowing them their godliness...Apollo is absolutely too dumbed down if you will...There is very little action in this book, just rambling set ups and brief encounters...I have considered maybe it's me and that maybe I have outgrown the genre, but can't go so far as to say that as I still enjoy many other series for this same age range...While the Magnus Chase series took on a political soap box tone, this series doesn't even do that...I was hesitant to even purchase book 3 after books 1 & 2, but foolishly thought things would pick up...I was wrong...Also, Robbie Draymond isn't a favorite of mine, but, in this case, his silly tone matches the silliness of the main character...So either things have really gone down, or "It's not you, it's me" Rick...

Entertaining

As an adult I've found many YA stories entertaining and Rick's books are no exception. I used to play a video game in the apple 2 as a kid that was a Greek good adventure writer and this reminds me of that. Fun.

I hate you Rick Riordan

I don't know how, but uncle Rick managed another masterpiece. Keep tissues handy fellow demigods.

Good story and good performance except...

Was no one around to tell this guy how to pronounce these Greek and Roman names/words? Every mispronunciation was painful. He did a good job with not overacting like the narrator for the Percy Jackson serious does(talk about painful). Liked the story, the writing was great as is usual for Riordan. I love how easily he marries the ancient with the modern.

Another great chapter in the series!

Love how he's been handing Apollo's character. Meg is wonderful as usual. Lots of cameos from the other series. Riordan continues to write interesting and engaging characters.
