Enjoyable

There were fewer distractions and less random tangents than the first book, which I did enjoy. However, some of the pacing felt a little all over the place and when the time crunch was on, it lacked a sense of urgency. Still, a very good listen. Would recommend. Looking forward to more.

Good book!

Just as good as the first book and now Joe has a more fleshed out team. Vikas Adam is a pretty crap narrator though. He makes every female characters voice either some shrill from Fargo, or a burned out California beach Betty.

Also I wish Audible would stop changing the cover art on titles I purchased a year ago...-.-

Intensly engrossing

I couldn't 'Bear' to stop listening. Riveting to the silence at the end. I regimend it all.

Satisfying LitRPG (for Free)

Dakota Krout improves 'The Collectionist Chronicles' with this more straightforward "kill monsters and advance" story - following Cleric/Ritualist 'Joe' and rotating crews of fellow Adventurers. His continued mission to fuse Arcane & Divine magics is intuitive, well-planned, and fits nicely into the sociopolitical conflicts among game planners (the "System") and the elites/competing guilds existing in the Eternia reality. Krout's humor is also on full display in this book (the snarky a$$hole metagame notification entity "Tater" is hilarious: insulting Joe with abandon while updating his Stats Sheet). The character sheet reviews remain fairly intrusive (the interference with story flow is annoying) - but I enjoyed this Book Two better than the first entry.

Likewise fortuitous for audiobook listeners, reader Vikas Adams does a better job reading Krout's words than on other offerings. His voice-acting choices are still over-the-top cartoonish.. but his pacing and tone are much improved.
[NOTE: Adams is still an "adequate" narrator, at best (Tantor Audio Inc. could easily have found a similarly effective performer).. but I didn't cringe as much during this read].

Altogether, 'Regicide' was a reasonable addition to my GameLit library and merits 7 stars out of 10. If you can get it off of the 'Plus' menu, it's a fine distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons. I'm merely suggesting that you should spend your Credit elsewhere should they ask for one.

[Incidentally: Krout's odd preoccupation with inserting "stinky" body odor debuffs continues.. it gets to be somewhat irritating. On the other hand, he's not afraid to kill off key characters. He's a baffling - but intriguing - writer.]
