Description
Prenatal nutrition can be confusing. A lot of the advice you have been given about what to eat (or what not to eat) is well-meaning, but frankly, outdated or not evidenced-based. In Real Food for Pregnancy, you will get clear answers on what to eat and why, with research to back up every recommendation.
Author and specialist in prenatal nutrition Lily Nichols, RDN, CDE has taken a long and hard look at the science and discovered a wide gap between current prenatal nutrition recommendations and what foods are required for optimal health in pregnancy and for your baby's development. There has never been a more comprehensive and well-referenced resource on prenatal nutrition. With Real Food for Pregnancy as your guide, you can be confident your food and lifestyle choices support a smooth, healthy pregnancy.

Worth basing policies on
This book is essential to making healthy and thriving new humans. Lily Nichols did such an amazing job at compiling and communicating the research showing evidence for whole food, and natural sources of nutrients. I will absolutely recommend this to all the ladies I know who want to have babies.
The author manages to stay engaging all along, which can be challenging for a nutrition book.
It's a great way to connect with yourself when preparing to be a mother.

So helpful and comforting!
I started listening to this book as soon as I found out I was pregnant. There is SO much information, I will likely re-read a few chapters. After one week I already feel so knowledgable and ready to face this pregnancy. This is written in a way that is easy to understand and from a perspective that understands what we are going through. Listening to this book never made me feel ashamed, guilty, or convicted for poor health choices, but instead made me feel knowledgable, comforted, and motivated to take care of myself and my baby.

Fantastic, informative, and empowering!
I was so grateful to read this book at the beginning of my second trimester. I heard Lily speak on the Down to Birth podcast and bought her book. Her realistic, informed approach to optimizing health before, during, and beyond pregnancy was great. She even provides specific, evidence-based advice on what to do if you develop xyz condition, along with providing info on how to prevent those conditions in the first place. She’s brilliant, and her info is backed by hundreds of studies, citations for which she provides in the references list. After an under-informed midwife mistakenly told me that the only way to prevent hypertension is to take daily aspirin from 16 weeks onward, and that the only treatment for hypertension is induction, it scared me- and I knew there had to be another way. Lily’s book has given me the tools I need to ensure I’m keeping myself as healthy as possible, to avoid such conditions as best as possible, and to have some tools available should anything unexpected arise. Thank you, Lily, for writing such an eloquent, straightforward and informative book.
Absolutely get this if you are pregnant, want to become pregnant, or give it to a pregnant friend!! An absolute must for taking control of your own health during pregnancy!
