Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Publisher's Summary
A Reese's Book Club + Hello Sunshine on Audible Pick
"My March pick is here! It’s Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and it ROCKS. Literally. The story centers on the meteoric rise of a rock band in the '70s and its lead singers, Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, whose connection is as electric as the music they make together. It’s sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll, people!! And the very best part?! Hello Sunshine is turning this into a TV show with Amazon Studios...so stay tuned for more updates!" (Reese Witherspoon)
A gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of an iconic 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer, revealing the mystery behind their infamous breakup.
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road. Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.
The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the '70s. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

What the critics say
“Raw, emotive, and addictively voyeuristic, Daisy Jones & The Six is imbued with the same anguished heart that fuels the very best rock ‘n’ roll. Like my favorite albums, this book will live with me for a very long time.” (Steven Rowley, author of Lily and the Octopus)
“An explosive, dynamite, down-and-dirty look at a fictional rock band told in an interview style that gives it irresistible surface energy...although the real power of this delicious novel is at its tender beating heart. It’s an anthem and a ballad and a marvel.” (Elin Hilderbrand, author of The Perfect Couple)

Not what I expected
I really wanted to like this book but I ended up returning it, I was looking for a story that had flow, this sounded like a screen play of a documentary, I really didn't like each character saying their name before they spoke, I don't remember reading this was a screenplay but it is. I think I would have liked the story if it wasn't written in that style.

Pointless
This was a disappointment especially when I realized it’s fictional. The whole book is “he said she said” which I found annoying, characters are so full of themselves, and worst of all nothing happens. Call me crazy but I like books that have an actual story. This was a bunch of attention hungry narcissists trying to convince you of how cool they were in the 70s with an air of importance like they were curing cancer. Cheesy.

Like your favourite album, it doesn’t leaves you
If you ever loved a band, wished you knew the band, read rolling stone or cream magazine ...or loved someone that belonged to someone else , this is a story for you.
I found myself constantly thinking about these musicians, their lyrics, wondering what they’re doing now ... thinking if only I could listen to their songs, could have watched them play or seen THAT album cover! Don’t read - this is an interview, listen to this book. I kept hoping I could listen to it longer, like your favourite album... even one more note or two

Waiting for something to happen...nothing did.
I found this story to be a tedious gnashing of teeth. It's a story (not much of a plot) about a group of fortunate and talented people, most of whom seem to be addicts and alcoholics, with narration bouncing back and forth between characters so much I sometimes felt nauseous. They wallow through out the book complaining about some important personal issues but mostly how unfair life is for them. I did not enjoy the story, although the performances were well done.
