The Instant New York Times Best Seller

"Sims’s vivid portrait of Trump shrewdly balances admiration with misgivings, and his intricate, engrossing accounts of White House vendettas and power plays have a good mix of immersion and perspective. The result is one of the best of the recent flood of Trump tell-alls." (Publishers Weekly)

The first honest insider’s account of the Trump administration. If you hate Trump you need the truth; if you love Trump you need the truth.

After standing at Donald Trump’s side on Election Night, Cliff Sims joined him in the West Wing as special assistant to the president and director of White House message strategy. He soon found himself pulled into the president’s inner circle as a confidante, an errand boy, an advisor, a punching bag, and a friend. Sometimes all in the same conversation.

As a result, Sims gained unprecedented access to the president, sitting in on private meetings with key congressional officials, world leaders, and top White House advisors. He saw how Trump handled the challenges of the office, and he learned from Trump himself how he saw the world.

For 500 days, Sims also witnessed firsthand the infighting and leaking, the anger, joy, and recriminations. He had a role in some of the president’s biggest successes, and he shared the blame for some of his administration’s worst disasters. He gained key, often surprising insights into the players of the Trump West Wing, from Jared Kushner and John Kelly to Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway.

He even helped Trump craft his enemies list, knowing who was loyal and who was not.

And he took notes. Hundreds of pages of notes. In real-time.

Sims stood with the president in the eye of the storm raging around him, and now he tells the story that no one else has written - because no one else could. The story of what it was really like in the West Wing as a member of the president’s team. The story of power and palace intrigue, backstabbing and bold victories, as well as painful moral compromises, occasionally with yourself.

Team of Vipers tells the full story, as only a true insider could.

A look on the other side

Overall, a pretty good book, but I had a hard time staying engaged, partly because it was long, but also because the author reflects different political ideologies than my own. Reading about the day-to-day goings on of the Trump White House was at first interesting, but I just got bored. But I intentionally stuck with it, as I believe that if we only ever expose ourselves to those that think like we do, we don't do ourselves any favours. Plus, this book reiterated to me that most people are passionate about doing good work, and that's what I saw in this book.

Censorship?

Well written and performed. Don’t have warm feelings for Sims or his misguided worldview, but it’s important to know how others see things. I really resent Audible’s decision to censor words they deemed inappropriate. When does a book distributor get to redact an author’s text? Utterly wrong move and insulting to the listener.

Only For The Staunchest Of Trump Supporters

If you're interested in listening to an audio book where it's almost impossible to tell whether the author wants to sleep with either Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump or perhaps even both - then this book is for you. Also, it has such wonderful and amazing passages about how the author loved to wear matching socks and ties (He goes into excellent detail about how this was a brilliant convo starter!), how he said and did things that he acknowledges as being wrong, but that it was ok because he was morally superior to everyone around him.

Now, I have to admit that I found it physically impossible to finish the book due to the simple fact that the author is quite terrible and boring (He honestly thinks that a 4-minute description of the Presidential Rose garden is somehow something everyone must know!!). But, what I did learn by listening to the first 5 hours and 17 minutes of the book is that absolutely nothing that Donald Trump did as a president that people felt was racist, sexist or simply immoral was, according to the author, Donald's fault. On the flip side, 100% of all of Donald's successes were due to either The Donald being, "Brilliant", "courageous" or simply taking the advice of the author.

I did my best to listen to this book, but between the *bleeped* out curse words, the I'm-better-than-Jesus attitude and the border-line Donald-Trump-was-sent-by-God attitude of the author, the book just became irritating and farcical. So disappointing because this is either the 4th or 5th book I've listened to in regards to 45s Presidency and despite the bias of previous authors, I found most to have something to take away from the stories. This one is just one 14+ hour infomercial about how brilliant, moral and god-like the author and Donald Trump are.

Hypocrisy on full display.

Sims makes sure that we know his christianity is a very important part of his life, and his support for Trump was based in large part due to the presidents promise to support evangelical interests. Sim joins the Trump administration and almost immediately takes on the moral and ethical qualities of a snake. He weasels his way into meetings and eavesdrops on private conversations. His hypocritical brand of christianity, while by no means uncommon, is in fact why I, and many others are so proudly atheist. Save your money for a book by an author with higher moral standing.

A dubious and self-congratulatory account

Cliff isn't telling the whole story. This account is selective and self-flattering. Rex Tillerson is mentioned only once in the entire book, while Cliff's perceived enemies are the book's focus. While it is refreshing that at times the author admits some of his shortcomings, it is not lost on the reader that while he admits to fighting dirty he gives no examples so as to not tarnish his reputation or admit to leaking documents to hurt his perceived rivals.

Interesting view from a close insider, a good read

If you're looking to understand how Trump's mind works, this author gives his first hand experience in as good as Audible books can provide, and as as good as any author can explain. As the author says, "whether you like Trump or not" that is what he experienced, and it's a book for historians, not partisans.

Waste of time

I found the book boring and it was not worth the time nor the credit I paid for it.

Author has no credibility

It's meant to be a 'fresh' or refreshingly honest portrayal of events as it is, after all, titled Team of Vipers, and is written by one of the vipers. So we are hearing it from the horses mouth. But this particular viper is a big believer in Donald Trump. I'm very biased in that I find Trump supporters to be inherently repugnant. So my review is disingenuous and I really shouldn't be writing it either. But I'm not trying to sell anything. So I'm not ripping you off.
