Description

Jackman and Evans are back in the latest gripping thriller by Joy Ellis, performed by the incomparable Richard Armitage.

Jackman’s sister-in-law Sarah disappears to London and throws herself into the river. What drove her to this? She was a woman with a seemingly happy homelife and two beloved sons. DI Jackman and DI Evans dig into Sarah’s life. And Jackman realises he knew almost nothing about his sister-in-law’s past.

Then, they discover a woman in a neighbouring village died in similar circumstances. What is the connection to a convicted murderer whose family are convinced he is innocent? Who is really pulling the strings?

Edge of Seat Listening

Another gripping tale by Joy Ellis. Jackman and Evans are fantastic; Armitage spellbinding as usual.

Very Quick Listen!

This is the fourth book in this series I have read and this was probably my favourite. I just flew through it as I didn’t want to stop listening. I think the narrator had something to do with that too... as he’s one of my favourites!

Terrific!!

WOW!! This whole series was AMAZING!! I really didn’t want it to be over! There are 4 books in the series so far and each one was as gripping as the one before! Not only what the murder squad was dealing with but the individuals that formed the murder squad. There was SUSPENSE, DRAMA and even the odd grin!! . The narrator was also amazing! I’m now looking for other mysteries narrated by Richard Armitage. I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series!! Thank you Joy Ellis!!! Loved it!!

Almost the best..... till the end???

So ok I guess the analogy mid way thru the book about Sherlock and Moriarty should have given me a glimmer of what was to come. Lovely narration as always but the ending was sudden and left hanging too much. I hope there’s another one coming ☹️ Loved so much about this book and Getting to know Jackman and his family more. Hope the next book is out in Audible SOON!!

Another winner from Joy Ellis!

Just as with her nine novel DI Nikki Galena series British author Joy Ellis has another wonderful series modern detective with Jackman and Evans. The Guilty Ones is a fine addition to the Jackman and Evans series. Actor Richard Armitage does a nice job of narrating, but I much prefer the narrations of Henrietta Meire due to her Fens British accent compared to the generic British accent of Armitage. In any case the modern detective series by Joy Ellis are always worthwhile.

Do not listen in the order Audible tells you to!!

Love this whole series! She does an excellent job portraying men and women working closely together - bonding - without the silly romance a lot of writers feel they need to include. Get this book and the others in the series!

My review is to tell you to read/listen to them in the order the author wrote them and NOT the order Audible tells you to.

DI Jackman and DS Marie Evans Series
Book 1: The Murderer's Son
Book 2: Their Lost Daughters
Book 3: The Fourth Friend
Book 4: The Guilty Ones
Book 5: The Stolen Boys (not yet on Audible)

NOOOOOOOOO!!!

First I must say that I find the characters in this series to be quite enjoyable. I have listened to all four. The ending of this last one was such a trite platitude I swore aloud in my car. The author set the stage for such a powerful ending and blew it trading instead for a predictable severely over-used outcome in this genre. I will listen to the next installment because the characters are well written, but it will take me a long time to get over the BIG miss at the end of this one.

Good . . . But Not Quite AS Good

Book Four in the Jackman and Evans Series is a good one, but in my opinion doesn’t quite stand up to the others in the series so far. Jackman’s family is hit hard when his sister-in-law, Sarah commits suicide by drowning herself in the river. But according to everyone who knew her, she was a happily married wife and mother to two young boys. Questions arise, however, when a similar thing happens to another woman. Jackman’s brother, James, is overwrought and not much help in solving the case, or in caring for his young sons. With the help of Orac (the computer wizard downstairs) Marie Evans and Jackman look into Sarah’s past and discover a lot of secrets. When the suicides continue, it’s a race to connect the dots and to keep Jackman’s family safe. One thing I liked about this book is learning more about Rowan Jackman’s family, his parents and background. The conclusion wasn’t as satisfying as most. But I will certainly continue the series.

I loved it

I had been waiting impatiently for this audiobook release and it was well worth the wait. I love this author’s books and this one is no exception.

The story is twisted and leaves many trails for the reader’s mind to follow if one wants to “play detective.” Personally, I like to let the story play out and have Jackson and Evans and the team work it out. We know who-done-it fairly early on but then there’s the drama and suspense of what will happen next. The character development is first rate, as usual for Joy Ellis.

Richard Armitage is a delightful narrator and gives a tremendous performance. I did find the denouement a bit unrewarding and disappointing. But, overall, one of the best books of 2019.

Guilt Comes In Many Forms

As a narrator, Richard Armitage is outstanding. All the characters are as I remember from the previous audio-books. He mastery in transition from one character to another is amazing. The story is a interesting glimpse into guilt. In this story, there is the crime element in which lead to the deaths of several characters. Might be a discussion whether this psychological torment would lead someone to suicide if a loved one threaten. Always a possibility that depending on the person psyche that one would chose that path rather than fight. It was clever to see how an obsession with a material object symbolism would lead someone to suicide. It's true, people attach emotions/dreams/hopes on things. In this story, the look into the main characters psyche/heart was interesting. The horror of this crime made them reevaluate what was important to them. I like the characters of Jackman and Evans. I think their connection developed by the author is a good one. Sort of disappointed about the love connection of Jackman and the psychologist, but that is because I like Marie Evans.

another good installment

another good installment of the Jackman and Evans thriller. This one was more personal for Jackman - it is about his sister in law Sarah who has disappeared. Good writing and the narrator kept me interested. I like Joy Ellis the author writing style.
