Description

Snap. Upload. Ruin a reputation.

In this pause-resisting short story from international bestselling author Jeffery Deaver, senior detective Jon Avery inherits a deeply troubling case. At an off-campus party, university professor Rose Taylor is drugged, undressed, and photographed on a burner phone. In seconds her humiliation is uploaded, and millions of JPEGs are zipping like immortal wasps through the internet. But why would someone target her? She has no vengeful exes or rival academics, no stalkers or unhinged students. Jon Avery, the sharpest, most experienced investigator in the sheriff’s office, is determined to find out who’s behind this horrific invasion of privacy. But soon he runs into a wall of silence at Preston College - an academic mecca whose reputation one doesn’t dare tarnish. The message is clear: if he pursues the case, he’ll pay for it.

A detective who didn’t give up

A novella that shows just how modern technology can be damaging to one’s life. It was quick and well done. Narration was absolutely perfect. I am on the lookout for more books with narrator Scott Merriman. Recommended.

Not for me

Not a bad little story but I did not care for presentation. The attempt at ‘acting was so distracting I couldn’t concentrate on story.

The Victim's Club

I enjoyed reading very much. I was not sold on the crime at first but I was interested in the follow up investigation. The reveal was done very well in my opinion.

Succinct and Superb!

Deaver is a master storyteller that crafts a short story with enough character development and story to match most other full length titles.

Listen to this story, highly recommend!

An Interesting Short Read

The Victims' Club is an interesting short read. I could easily see this being a TV episode.

OK

Aside from the twist at the end I really feel the story isn't fresh. Its quite a short one but exaggerated college athlete privilege is a bit tiring.

Excellent short story!

I was disappointed this offering was only a short story; however, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Audible version made the story even more enjoyable, try it out!

Great short read

As usual with Deaver, very, very clever. Great ending. All detectives should be so humane. Great short read.

Good!

Good short story, I liked the way it turned out. Sometimes a good short story is all that’s needed, after just finishing a long one.

Worth a listen

Interesting short story with a clever plot resolution, mostly. Hard to not feel badly for the real victim in the story.
