Are you losing your "war of art"? Are you being defeated by a tendency to procrastination, self-doubt, fear, distraction, and perfectionism? Are you self-sabotaging your loftiest artistic entrepreneurial dreams? The antidote is in nine words: Put your ass where your heart wants to be. Can you shift your artistic identity—your "ass"—from the shallow, fearful, superficial ego to the wise, loving, fearless self? Can you commit to your dream for the long haul and for keeps? On our artist's journey, we move past resistance and past self-sabotage. We discover our true selves and our authentic calling, and we produce the works we were born to create. You are an artist too - whether you realize it or not, whether you like it or not - and you have an artist's journey. Will you live it out? Will you follow your muse and do the work you were born to do?

Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

The Happiness Hypothesis is about ten Great Ideas. Each chapter is an attempt to savor one idea that has been discovered by several of the world's civilizations—to question it in light of what we now know from scientific research, and to extract from it the lessons that still apply to our modern lives and illuminate the causes of human flourishing. Award-winning psychologist Jonathan Haidt, the author of The Righteous Mind, shows how a deeper understanding of the world's philosophical wisdom and its enduring maxims can enrich and even transform our lives.

People who have read my books, particularly “The War of Art” and its cousins, have a vague idea of the odyssey of a particular solitary guy, wracked with guilt and riven by self-doubt, as he struggles toward his destiny as a writer. But they have only the scantiest conception of the particulars of that journey. These particulars I’m hoping may be of use to others as they wrestle with their own version of that same odyssey. So let me try to strip it down. Let me tell the parts I normally leave out.

Gates of Fire puts you at the side of valiant Spartan warriors in 480 BC for the bloody, climactic battle at Thermopylae. There, a few hundred of Sparta’s finest sacrificed their lives to hold back the invading Persian millions. The time they bought enabled the Greeks to rally - saving, according to ancient historian Herodotus, “Western democracy and freedom from perishing in the cradle.” How did the Spartans accomplish this superhuman feat? This is what the King of Persia hopes to learn from the sole Spartan survivor.

Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer's block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you're a well-adjusted human.

Histoire
A smart and funny book by a prominent Harvard psychologist, which uses groundbreaking research and (often hilarious) anecdotes to show us why we’re so lousy at predicting what will make us happy–and what we can do about it. Most of us spend our lives steering ourselves toward the best of all possible futures, only to find that tomorrow rarely turns out as we had expected. Why? As Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert explains, when people try to imagine what the future will hold, they make some basic and consistent mistakes.

Description
Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself.
Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.
Though it was written for writers, it has been embraced by business entrepreneurs, actors, dancers, painters, photographers, filmmakers, military service members, and thousands of others around the world.

To anyone that gives this a low rating hear me out
This was masterful and to anyone that gives this low rating is not an arties, entrepreneur or creator.. This is as close to a perfect discription of the struggles an ateist faces. Steven gave new tools and perspective I needed to push through the hard parts of being a 'Professional'.
Im a life long entrepreneur since I was 12y and operate 3 international business now that I created and have patents on products and have nearly jumped off a bridge going through the exact struggles Steven wrote so perfectly..
I never do reviews becasue most don't deserve them.. But this one needed it.. From what I see from some semi poor reviews I just had to jump in and I would really like the next person that plans to do a poor review also tell us what u do for a living and are as an artiest / professional.. Because I would surly bet you are an 'amature' at best!
Nice work Steven

It was alright
I'm not much for all the religious undertones and metaphors, but beyond that the book is not too bad. The advice is somewhat good if you're into art and the writing is solid. Unfortunately, it felt more autobiographical than anything else. Would not recommend for anyone who's not into religion and doesn't need help finding motivation.

If only people tried harder
This pretty much summarizes the whole book, try harder, push through your blocks and all the problems of the world will be gone. I had to stop listening to this after the author went on a rant about how mental illness doesn't exist and it is a fabrication from marketers to sell you pills. I bought this to read about the creative process, not conspiracy theories.

Pressfield is Definitely an Artist...
While reading this book, I felt that my opinion was tossed back and forth randomly as he read each piece.
After reading a lot of books that dealt with self- help and developing positive constructs in one's life, I was so used to the candid, 'no-nonsense' vibes that they all had portrayed, that I wasn't expecting the artistic, fluid and eccentric nature of Pressfield's narration, or his choice in words. This in combination with the misplaced musical scores at the beginning of chapters made me dislike the book at first.
A lot of what is talked about here is expressed through artistic metaphors. I've always been very much a materialist, so needless to say, this didn't work with me at all. The funny thing is that he actually addresses people who think in that same light indirectly when he talks about ego versus the self. At that point I realized that the issue was how I was reading the book, and not the author itself.
There are times where I disagree with him, times I agree, times that I love what he says, and others that I just shake my head in dismay, but all around, when it comes to the substance of the book, Pressfield was proficient in motivating me to stick to my craft, and trim the fat where need be. He provided insights that can easily be extrapolated to my life and the work that I do.
All around this is a good book, but the way he delivered it wasn't optimal for me, and choice in music, or even the choice of including music, was terrible in my personal opinion (some may like it I guess).
