Description

An unpauseable EMP boxset with a brilliant twist!

The Final Homestead

After an EMP strike leaves the country with no power or communications, James Bowers, a fourth-generation cattle rancher, must rescue his wife and son from the chaos engulfing San Antonio, Texas. But with so many unprepared, James discovers more than one type of enemy.

Storm Surge

Maxine Winters, an overworked yet successful veterinarian, finds herself trapped out at sea when an electromagnetic pulse erupts over South Florida. Stranded and concerned for her family's safety, she must rely on her wits to reach landfall before the storm hits. Little does she know that the incoming Category Four hurricane is the least of her problems.

It was mostly the narrator.

I have tried repeatedly to finish this book but just can't. When I see I still have 19 hours left I just can't imagine slogging through this book to find out how it ends. Maybe it would be different with a better narrator but I am not even sure about that. I will have to return it.

This is not a prepper story

While this genre has been descending into formulaic writing, those two stories were never prepper stories to begin with. Admittedly I have never listened to a Jack Hunt book before. I don’t know whether Jack is a thirty something woman or a twenty something male but the writing AND the narration was far to emo to be endured. I had to force myself to finish the stories. I am not saying that jack can’t write, in fact his stories have some bare bone ideas that have great merit. I am saying that no writer is suited for every genre and that Jack is not suited for prepper fiction. Perhaps dramatic popular fiction. If you must write by formula, please emulate Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, or (dare I say it) Clive Cussler. Not Danielle Steele. They know how string tension and evolve their characters while using emotion/sex/humour as a spice rather than as a main ingredient.

Terrible book!

Besides learning a few ideas on how to prep for an EMP attack, this book was terrible. The story line was weak. It was filled with gratuitous and vivid descriptions of violence and gore. And the narrator sounded bored reading the thing. Not only was she the wrong choice for such a violent book with her "girl next door" voice, but even during the more "exciting" parts, her monotone never changed. This book was disjointedly written and often lacked common sense. I would not recommend this book at all.

Totally bogus

A fairly well written though unbelievable story, well told by the narrator. The main characters repeatedly put themselves into situations that just are not believable. Seriously, just drive up to your enemy and a truck loaded with your volunteer army and say pretty please?
I took most of the story with a grain of salt and just say stupid but okay stupid but okay stupid but okay, but then in the end it was totally moronic and unbelievable.

Bad writing and performance.

The author didn't understand much about EMPs and used it poorly as a plot device. The narrator made every teenager sound like a toddler. Take your money or credit elsewhere.

bad narrator

The story is good however the 2nd half narrator is hard to listen too. sounds like a robot voice and constantly hearing heavy breathing and other background noise.

GOOD STORY - BAD NARRATION

I enjoyed the story line. Know ahead of time that the boxset is two separate books with different characters. I liked the characters in both books. The narration was painful. It seems like the narrator is reading the book and pausing at the end of each line, not the end of each sentence...
