Description

Hear the second book in The Long Winter trilogy!

They decimated Earth during the Long Winter. Now the Grid has returned, and they won't stop until the human race is extinct. On a ruined world, humanity's last survivors fight against impossible odds. In their darkest hour, they discover a new hope for survival. But it comes at an unthinkable price, with consequences that will change everything.

We thought the war was over. We were wrong. After the Long Winter, Emma Matthews and James Sinclair hoped life would get back to normal. They've settled down in Camp Seven and welcomed their first child, a daughter. And they have waited and watched the sky for any signs of the Grid's return. When NASA discovers that several asteroids have broken from the Kuiper Belt and are headed for Earth, James instantly realizes the truth: the Grid is back.

And this battle will be one to the very end. As he and his team prepare for humanity's last stand in space and on the ground, Emma makes a discovery closer to home, one that will change life for her and James once again. With war raging around them, Emma and James fight to keep their family alive.

In the cold darkness, humanity splinters. New alliances emerge. At every turn, Emma and James face new dangers and question whom to trust. Just when it seems that all hope is lost, James uncovers what may be the key to humanity's survival. But it comes with enormous risks. To implement his plan, he and Emma will have to survive the Grid and another, even more deadly enemy. One thing is certain: their gambit will change the future of the human race forever.

It leaves a lot of unanswered questions about the future! Waiting for the release of the last book of the series.

kept me entertained

I really enjoyed this series. both books have enough suspense to keep me engaged. the characters were fleshed out an interesting. i hope to see a third book to finish the story. Narrators were good and using both male and female voices was a good choice.

Another fantastic AG Riddle Novel. Cant wait to read book# 3.
loved the Narrators ...Edoardo Ballerini is one of my favorite! Best thing about the book I think was Arthur's character, He was a very likeable villian!

the story is sad and depressing

aside the story being sad and depressing pretty much all the way through, I found that there were at times where the male narrator was nearly inaudible. the first book was better, though also quite depressing. was hoping this one would have been less so

The Solar War is a great science fiction read!

The Solar War is the pinnacle of science fiction drama. Master alien threats, love, romance, suspense, danger, ethics, science, rebirth both in the form of a baby and perseverance rewarded with a new beginning of mankind in a new world. At the end it leaves you with another mystery. Bring it on I can hardly wait for the sequel.

BORING & REDUNDANT WORDING

First book in the series, Winter World, was very good; HOWEVER, book 2, The Solar War wording was over-the-top redundant. Over and over the main characters, Emma and James used the same wording, talked about the same things ad nauseam. After listening to 20% of the book I just wanted to shoot myself. I just couldn't stand it anymore! I had to stop listening. I skipped to the end just to make sure the predictable and expected ending came to fruition. Spoiler alert: Unsurprisingly, it ended as I anticipated.
Gave 4-stars to the narrators, Edoardo Ballerini and Amanda Leigh Cobb; they did a nice job.
I called Audible and returned this book.
To paraphrase another review: If you love books where the main character misses painfully obvious clues and seems to consciously make things worse --- then this is the book for you,

Goes nowhere, tedious and scattered

A lot of draw out filler to take you nowhere. No real ending and far too many detours.

Solid entry for the middle book!

The second entry in a series is often boring or lacking its own defined story. This is not one of those. It has its own story arc that fits into the bigger picture with great twists in the story line. Can’t wait for book 3! Another great story from Riddle!

Loved it

I thought it was great, I would have liked the 2 books to be one and there might be a third one coming, I hope so, I want to read more. I love science fiction but am often disappointed, I was not with this.
Some reviewers didn’t like that the science was not correct, OK with me, how am I to know that, I’m not a scientist. I liked the whole scenario, I listened to both books in 10 days. I was disappointed in the characters of Art and Arther, Art being from the first book, his attitude. I’ll say no more for fear of a spoiler.
The narration from Ballerini was masterful, the first book was my first listen from him. I’ll seek out more from him in the near future. I even watched a movie with him in it, Ha!, he spoke very little!

The plot thickens!

Loved the premise. However, there are problems with the genepool diversity. Also, the plot rgd the other players is weak - why were they not taken into confidence? Why just two supercarriers? The Journey remains a mystery - why did it take 3 times as much? Very light on the science. Hope A. G. Riddle takes this into account and addresses them in the next book. Which I am waiting for most definitely!!

Excellent

The first book was great, this is as good or better. Great reading performance by both narrators. Couldn’t stop listening. Made me look forward to getting in my car to go somewhere.

Wonderful story

The most important part of this story is the human behavior and their fight for being alive.
