Description

What kind of god would you be? Deep beneath the earth, Corey finds himself reborn as a God Core - a sentient crystal with unusual powers. His new worshippers? A colony of incompetent gnomes, scratching out an existence in their underground grotto.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Corey soon realises that his gnome denizens are about to become extinct. They are threatened by groups of blundering adventurers and abducted by raiding kobolds to be sacrificed to their own dark god: an ancient, mysterious foe who does not take kindly to Corey’s arrival.

With the aid of his helper sprite and a menagerie of newly evolved creatures, Corey must protect and guide his gnomes until they can stand on their own two feet. But the kobold army is on the march, led by his new rival’s powerful avatar.

It’s a hard rock life, being a God Core. Inspired by the god sims such as Black & White, dungeon managers like Dungeon Keeper and civ builders like Age of Empires, God of Gnomes is the first in a new generation of LitRPG and Dungeon Core stories - God Core.

Gnomes Rule!!!

Great story and Narration!

Corey wakes up not really remembering much, only to find out he is now a god core(similar to a dudgeon core, but with religious followers that must be protected). Unfortunately, his "people" are grubby barely sentient gnomes. Can he build up his dungeon, protect his people, and level up? Is it even worth being the deity of these gnomish bumpkins?

This one was Fun!

The MC's struggles with his past identity, the humbleness of his people, and his doubts and fears were engaging.

I can't wait for the next book to come out!

A Fresh take on the Core Genre

This was a fresh take on the dungeon core genre, and a welcome addition.

The main character seems unbearable at first. but stick it out- theres a reason.

The character growth is so well paced, you hardly notice the characters changing until you look back at how far they've come.

If you're a fan of Dakots Krout's Divine Dungeon series, this is for you.

I cant wait for book two!

Be Kind To Yourself, Get this book.

Let me begin this review by saying I'm familiar and a fan of Dungeon Core series, However this is so much more than that.

God of Gnomes rewards you for your previous fantasy knowledge without making you feel left out for not knowing it.

Pros:
Engaging story
Likeable civilization the god core rules over.
Understandable powers.
NO STAT SHEETS! (Even in fantasy Dungeon Core these are far too common)

Pro/Con:
Very few talking characters so the voices for each are very distinct.
Most of the story is the litteral gods eye view of a civilization.
This is a small story never reaching farther than a large cave in a small part of the world. Not much outside lore is told or needed.

Cons:
The reason in the middle of the book for making our two protagonists split up feels a bit... forced to say the least. Dealing with a species I.E. cores, whom many can be evil, simply calling something an "Evil Race" feels a bit out of character for who this scares away.

Seriously, it's engaging and interesting, I was just as on my seat about different villagers possibly dying or being in danger as the titular god of gnomes. If you like the civilization building parts of 4X videogames and have a respect for the little things, you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you do not pick this up.

Couldn’t put it down!

I really enjoyed this book! Author and narrator together made this book a joy to listen to. I finished it in a day and a half and was sorry to reach the end. Hopefully a sequel isn’t too far behind.

godly different

I believe this book was definitely done differently than other books of its type.

the narrator did a very good job I do think this book would have benefited from having a secondary narrator doing the woman voice but there wasn't a whole lot so it's understandable for the cost.

I think a lot of details were missed that would have helped the book that kind of pulled me away from the story but other than that I was on the edge of my metaphorical seat.

this book has a lot of emotion and self-discovery of a core inside of it very unique traits with evolving. then the difference of having denizens instead of monsters and having their dungeon.

A whiney, petulant, arrogant, narcissist of a mc

I get why the author wrote them this way from the hints I've picked up in the first few chapters. But come on, there's no need to make him this bad. Even if it is for cheap character development in later chapters as he removes the stick from his proverbial butt.

The combination of info dumping, and just the pure unlikable nature of the mc makes it a chore with each successive chapter.

The narrator is perfect for this character as he somehow gets the voice of a put upon teenager perfectly. Was very impressed with him.

Overall not my cup of tea. Though this pivot in the dungeon core subgenre is intriguing.

a creative twist on dungeon cores

this book takes the dungeon core genre and Sparks new life in it by using video games like black and white to bring a new and fun point of view to the genre. well done!

You need to give this book a good couple hours

If you are in to Dungeon Core novels (like Divine Dungeon) this book will probably scratch your itch. You will also likely be familiar with how slowly the book starts off as our core learns about it's abilities, it's place in the world, and it's powers. For whatever reason whispersync wasn't turned on for this book (for me at least) but I decided to switch over to the audible to give it a whirl. I had to speed it up to 1.25x speed and I probably could have gone to 1.3x or more.

My big qualm was that since our core cant speak with it's denizens or minions the narrator really has to carry the audio experience. Yes he comes off a bit whiney in the beginning (they all do in this genre) but it does get much better as the story gets cooking. Hopefully in future books we get more interaction with the humans and get to listen in to more conversations to broke up Corey's monologue.

All and all a good start and will be looking forward to the next one.

It was fun

The story was good. it reminded me of playing civilization or sims. the main issue I had with this was lack of characters, it's just the core, the wisp, and the antagonist (for the most part). While I enjoyed the voice of the antagonist, the wisp's voice is grating and can be hard to listen to. The core voice is fine, nothing special. overall it's pretty fun.

the most annoying, childish MC

I had to return it. the MC is awful, like listening to a 12 year old boy who thinks the world owes him everything.
