Description

Can humanity survive on a new world?

On Eos, the last survivors of the Long Winter face their greatest challenge yet - and race to unravel the deepest secrets of the grid.

The last survivors of the human race escaped a ruined Earth. Their new homeworld - Eos - seemed perfect at first. Warm. Hospitable. Safe from the grid. But everything isn't as it seems.

The first colony of settlers - from the Carthage - have disappeared. Their settlement is still there, but everyone is gone. As James digs into the mystery of the lost colony, he discovers a series of spheres, buried on Eos. Are they the key to finding the lost colonists? Or are they responsible for their deaths?

Just as James is unraveling the secrets of the spheres, a storm hits Jericho City. Emma, recently elected mayor, struggles to lead her people to safety while James tries to make his way home. In the middle of the chaos, a new danger emerges - a threat no one saw coming.

With time running out to save the colonists, James and Emma face their hardest choice yet.

This third volume was a real let down

I really enjoyed the first two books. And waited for this book for awhile. Sadly it was not as good as the previous ones. Half of this book was just filler by the author. The editor should have not released it for publication.

Good until midbook! Quantum mechanics.. ugh

This series was good, if only I'd stopped at book two! Are you a scientist? Maybe you can understand the speculation and theories that are all there is after midbook. If i wanted a dissertation on quantum mechanics and black holes I'd be in university . I was rolling my eyes while the author said black holes will swallow our universe. Look, i am average in intelligence and love sci fi. The monologue that went on and on and on about theories was more than i wanted to hear. I wanted a story, and that seemed to be over halfway through.:( I can't listen to this. Glad series is over but not with the unhappy ending that leaves us with speculation.

WOW, JUST WOW!!

An amazing finish to an incredible trilogy. It's too hard to summarize this book without giving away spoilers. Needless to say, this book had so many twists and turns that I had to relisten to the last hour and a half or so over. Not because I didn't understand it but to fully grasp the awe factor of it. I'm still thinking about it and probably will for a very long time. I LOVE books that make you really think, not about the technical aspects but the meaning or message behind the book. I promise you, it will leave you in awe. Thank you so much Mr. Riddle for writing a book that I will never forget!

Last book

I was very disappointed. This story had so many technical references and kept on went changing timelines and black holes so much I couldn’t get a grasp of which timeline they were on. I actually stopped listening for a while then decided to finish and get it out of the way.
The first 2 books were awesome and I was so looking forward to this one that I am doubly disappointed.

great finale

this is a great finish to the trilogy that maintains the same themes and focus of the previous 2 books (large scale stakes, small scale conflicts and focus). the performance is stellar again, but the voice style for Arthur was completely changed and I don't understand why. he now sounds like Oscar, which was confusing in several key scenes. there was also one key element of the story that was a little confusing early on, and then became very confusing for a while later on. those things aside, it's a great story and I'm looking forward to whatever comes next.

Ultimately very imaginative and entertaining

This was an imaginative finale to a generally captivating trilogy, although the author seems to have become caught up in exploring wordiness during the 1st 3rd or so of the book in describing the often trivial thoughts of the characters (Emma - "Oh my goodness James is in trouble"... And James "I have to get back to Emma" ad infinitum.) and the many many trials and obstacles faced by the colonists; particularly with the e-rex creatures. Several chapters describe these creatures' ferocity and impermeability, and the colonists eventually manage to either kill or evade them, leading the reader to believe that the story will move on. But then another adversary appears, causing the e-rex's to turn around and run toward the colonists once again, where it's necessary for them to again avoid being killed. It almost appears that Riddle simply cut and pasted the first few chapters into these later chapters for volume.

But then things pick up and a very imaginative, and plausible, story emerges, making this a worthwhile read.

The narrators were very good.

Not as good as the first 2 books

(Minor Spoilers) I loved the first 2 books in the series, so I bought this one as soon as it released. While the others read like doomsday sci-fi, this one reads like a alien Jurassic Park/90’s Godzilla movie that just keeps going. The end is ok because it gets back on topic, but I was really tempted to abandon the book before I got there. I was also sad that the narrator didn’t continue to use his gruff sarcastic voice for Arthur, since that was something I really enjoyed from the other books. It’s still worth listening to if you really enjoyed the series, I just wish it had stayed more true to the original plot.

Not the twist I was hoping for.

I was hoping that science, engineering or technology would be the answer. Not an anticlimactic soft landing.
