Description

It's finally here - the definitive, authorized story of legendary sketch comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall. Meticulously researched and written with the full cooperation and participation of the Kids by critically acclaimed biographer and comedy aficionado Paul Myers, The Kids in the Hall: One Dumb Guy features exclusive interviews with Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson, as well as key players from their inner circle, including producer Lorne Michaels. Marvel as the Kids share their intimate memories and behind-the-scenes stories of how they created their greatest sketches and most beloved characters, from the Chicken Lady and Buddy Cole to Cabbage Head and Sir Simon & Hecubus.

The Kids in the Hall: One Dumb Guy spans the entirety of the Kids' storied career, from their early club shows in Toronto to their recent live reunion tours across North America-and everything in between. Along for the ride are a plethora of fans, peers, and luminaries to celebrate the career and legacy of Canada's most subversively hilarious comedy troupe. You'll hear tributes from Seth Meyers, Judd Apatow, Garry Shandling, Paul Feig, Mike Myers, David Cross, Michael Ian Black, Brent Butt, Jonah Ray, Dana Gould, Bob Odenkirk, Andy Richter, and Canada's newest comedy sensation, Baroness Von Sketch.

The world needs more Kids In The Hall

This was a really great history lesson on one of, if not THE greatest comedy troupes of all time. From each of the members humble beginnings to near present time you learn so much about the gang you appreciate them so much more. If you're a KITH fan, do yourself a favour and get this book!
Paul Myers voice is also great, doesn't distract from the story but also comfortable if that makes sense lol

One Hall of A Good Listen

The Story of the Kids in the Hall was well written, well told and really in depth. A great story from their humble beginnings to the hopes of another chapter being written some day. A great listen for fans and anyone wondering what it takes to make it in show business. What a journey.

Just… WOW.

I sorta came across this book randomly looking around Audible, and although I did occasionally watch it when I was much younger and it was on cable, admittedly I didn’t come to enjoy KITH like I do until relatively recently. And I don’t know WHY I was even remotely surprised that their backstory has as much to it as it does. This book is amazing, very thorough and very touching at times, and gave me a much, much greater appreciation of their work going forward. I plan on going through their whole body of work again very closely now! Outstanding book.

I didn't know the story at all behind these guys...

Paul Myers writes a fascinating look at the lives of Canada's favourite comedy troupe "The Kids in the Hall". He walks you through it all to a few years ago and does a fantastic job with the narration of his book. I had zero knowledge where these guys got started or how they were behind the scenes. it's like reading about your favourite rock n Roll band. Highly recommend.

Amazing!

A must-read for any and all fans of The Kids or of comedy in general. Also a must-read for Canadians. Such a huge part of Canadian comedy history. Amazing deep-dive into the history of the group and the lives of every member of the group. Icons.

Kind of weak, boring

Performance is very one-note; spoken well but no performance to it (no excitement when exciting things are happening, no sadness when dad things are happening).
The story is okay, but just a chronological ordering of events.

for obsessives and casual fans, and comedy nerds

The book really gets into every aspect you would want to know about the Kids in the Hall, from individual influences and tortured histories, to the long road of coming together, to making it, breaking it, and finding it again.

Comedy fans, whether KitH obsessives or casual or even newcomers will find Myers' documentarian approach inviting and informative in the development of five distinct comedic personas who come together to form one Voltron of a sketch comedy juggernaut.
