Description

Since graduating from Whisperwood School for Boys, William has found a sense of normalcy in his life with James. He has a steady (albeit secret) relationship, a home, and a job - even if it doesn't pay the greatest. Never mind that he lacks James' reckless bravery when it comes to dealing with spirits; he does his best, and it hasn't killed him thus far.

When a new client calls on their expertise in solving a grisly multiple homicide, William resists. They're spirit hunters, not detectives. But the money is too much to pass up when they don't know when their next meal will be, and soon they're arriving at Evenbury Manor, nestled in a close-knit rural community, ready to investigate.

They're in over their heads, but in very different ways than William could have anticipated. The hills are filled with creatures far more dangerous than any they've ever encountered, and their usual tactics aren't working. On top of his renewed struggles with his addiction, William is left to fend for himself against the dead to protect not only the community, but the person in the world that's most important to him.

Runs off on tangents

Ugh, so much unnecessary chatter. I listened to the first three chapters (two hours long) and what happened? absolutely nothing. The only progress in the two hours was them being called to a job and encountering a ghost boy.

They are from a era/society where their love would be frown upon and outlawed, but instead of taking care and embracing the little secret looks to each other they can have in public and relishing in the fact that they can be open with themselves as they work together and typically alone, oh no, they act like two giddy teens constantly touching and calling each other darling. I listened to two hours of incessant and overly done flirting between them where James is trying to get the other person in bed it was pointless is this a romance? It got tiresome fast. I didn’t think this was a romance, but apparently I was wrong.

I think of “The mysterious and amazing blue Billings” by Lilly Morton as a way of doing romance and supernatural in a funny, quirky manner and still gets on with the story, but this book just wanders, just get on with the story.

I find it funny that the known atheist in the book uses holy water and recites chants that speak of god in banishing “evil” or ghosts. I also find it extremely unimaginative by the authors that holy water and chants about removing evil from the “godly” people are the only options they could come up with. If I have to listen to one more encounter with a spirit where they drop their holy water or they forget the chants….

I am glad I didn’t read book 1 and as it stands, at over 3 hours in, book 2 makes me not want to continue listening till the end, only going to to prove my initial guess from the title…there will be some fast forwarding involved.

Ha, not to spoil it for anyone, but I was right and the title literally gives away the culprit.

Soooo goood

This audiobook was really good more than the first. It was, scary, thrilling, emotional, funny(sometimes), and overall entertaining. I enjoy every second of it and the audio was easy to follow.
