Histoire
Sam and Clementine have a wonderful, albeit, busy life: they have two little girls, Sam has just started a new dream job, and Clementine, a cellist, is busy preparing for the audition of a lifetime. If there’s anything they can count on, it’s each other. Clementine and Erika are each other’s oldest friends. A single look between them can convey an entire conversation. But theirs is a complicated relationship, so when Erika mentions a last minute invitation to a barbecue with her neighbors, Tiffany and Vid, Clementine and Sam don’t hesitate.

Description
2021 AudioFile Best Audiobooks
2021 Washington Post Best Books of the Year
From Liane Moriarty, the number one New York Times best-selling author of Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, comes Apples Never Fall, an audiobook that looks at marriage, siblings, and how the people we love the most can hurt us the deepest.
The Delaney family love one another dearly - it’s just that sometimes they want to murder each other....
If your mother was missing, would you tell the police? Even if the most obvious suspect was your father?
This is the dilemma facing the four grown Delaney siblings.
The Delaneys are fixtures in their community. The parents, Stan and Joy, are the envy of all of their friends. They’re killers on the tennis court, and off it their chemistry is palpable. But after 50 years of marriage, they’ve finally sold their famed tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives. So why are Stan and Joy so miserable?
The four Delaney children - Amy, Logan, Troy, and Brooke - were tennis stars in their own right, yet as their father will tell you, none of them had what it took to go all the way. But that’s okay, now that they’re all successful grown-ups and there is the wonderful possibility of grandchildren on the horizon.
One night a stranger named Savannah knocks on Stan and Joy’s door, bleeding after a fight with her boyfriend. The Delaneys are more than happy to give her the small kindness she sorely needs. If only that was all she wanted.
Later, when Joy goes missing, and Savannah is nowhere to be found, the police question the one person who remains: Stan. But for someone who claims to be innocent, he, like many spouses, seems to have a lot to hide. Two of the Delaney children think their father is innocent, two are not so sure - but as the two sides square off against each other in perhaps their biggest match ever, all of the Delaneys will start to reexamine their shared family history in a very new light.
A Macmillan Audio production from Henry Holt and Company
Ce que les critiques en disent
"Audiobook narrator Caroline Lee’s voice is an irresistible, visceral joy; like the best audiobook narrators, her delivery is endlessly malleable, shifting nimbly across accent, register and tone to create a sense that one is inside the story rather than peering in from the outside." (Farhad Manjoo, The New York Times)
"[Lee] adds a crisp warmth that makes for an easy and absorbing listen." (Alan Rosenberg, The Providence Journal)
"Australian narrator Caroline Lee is an amazing performer who digs so deeply into her characters' personas that listeners will become addicted to each witty, insightful, and gutsy one." (AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award Winner)

Not for me
I have always enjoyed Liane Moriarty’s books, so I was very excited to hear this one. However I couldn’t even get into this one. The story is slow, I found myself skipping chapters at a time to hurry along the story. It was hard to listen to as well, the performance of the book read was just not for me either.

Having a hard time getting into this
This is a very slow moving book. I don't care about the kind of coffee the siblings order or the waitresses perspective on the family in a restaurant. This is only in the beginning and so far it is not getting any better. I am 4 hours into this book and am on Chapter 13 with almost 14 hours left and this is not holding my interest. I am not going to invest 14 hours into this. I like a book that grabs me from the beginning. This one doesn't.
I was never a fan of Big Little Lies, (had to fast forward through that one) but I enjoyed What Alice Forgot. Thought I would give this book a try but think I will get my credit back and stay way from Liane Moriarty books. Lesson learned. I usually love Caroline Lee as a narrator but not this time.

Well written, well narrated.
I have listened to all her books and this one is her best. Heartbreaking observations about all the ways we hurt the people we love the most. I have never felt as understood as sibling until I read this and saw a reflection of my family.

Insightful but not exciting
The characters as Liane writes them is brilliant! Makes you turn inward and think about your own relationships. Relatable, realistic and sometimes funny. However the story is not thrilling, seems like it is building up to that but ultimately it just drops off which lead me to give the lowest review to the story. This captures you but leaves you unsatisfied which if you listen to the book is appropriate for the content it discusses. Caroline Lee is an excellent narrator and I will seek out more books she narrates. While I can appreciate and find entertainment in Lianes writing I likely won’t seek out her books again.

Stunning, riveting. Slow reveal
Complex, interwoven characters and plot. It was long but other than what seemed like afterthoughts to work the pandemic in, it was exactly the right length. So many tiny details and they are all ultimately used in the slow, careful unveiling of truth.
