Description

Being a mage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially when you’ve witnessed the end of the world and the demise of all you’ve ever loved.

As a particle physicist, William Jenkins is as unsuited to survival on an alien world as any normal 30-something post-doc could be. Thankfully, he’s not alone. With an AI, magic, scientific curiosity, and, most improbably, a deity on his side, Will must come to terms with his new reality before otherworldly terrors forever extinguish the light of hope on this new world.

Meanwhile, as the forces of darkness amass to invade her home, Effni Naridia, Qaseri Ranger, and Guardian of her peoples, must face her own demons. By undertaking a trial, Effni could determine not only the fate of her city but unravel a mystery aeons in the making.

The Last Physicist features elements of progression fantasy and Gamelit and is perfect for those who enjoy stories by Andrew Rowe, Will Wight, and Andy Weir.

Warning. This novel contains questionable quantum mechanics, general relativity, and magic.

Note: This book also features profanity, vivid depictions of violence, pain, and gore, along with depictions of mental health issues (including PTSD, generalized anxiety, and depression) some listeners may find distressing.

African American mc is refreshing!

I see alot of comments complaining about the mc being depressed and how it has a negative impact on the book. I disagree wholeheartedly with these complaints as given the circumstances of what happened to him I believe most people would be beyond hysterical.

where the book and plot line are concerned I do not think this is top tier litrpg but it's a good listen while we wait on the likes of Dakota krout and aleron Kong to release their next titles. I urge you to give it a shot.

Kinda neat but blatantly steals from D&D

The idea of assigning taste of all things to magic is kinda neat, but nothing worth noting.

The writer failed to keep accurate records of the characters progression.

The writers blatant lack of understanding of the subject matter they have decided to write about takes away massively from the enjoyment of reading. The MC is supposedly capable of perceiving the world around them and acting as normal while at 1000x speed. At this time dilation, the MC would be able to punch out 1000x per second. throw 1000x rocks per second. Example. A humming bird perceives the world at a rate of around 10x our perception of time. They are capable of dodging bullets. Yet the MC constantly finds himself being outpaced by all his opponents. As if they also could somehow perform hundreds of broad swings with a sword per second. That's no joke, I counted no less than 20 times during this novel when the MC was at 100x or greater time dilation while dodging "dozens of blows" even though no enemy had ever used chronomancy.

Essentially. The writer has utterly and totally field in every possible aspect to write a consistent narrative, consistent mechanics, consistent threats, believable threats, believable exceptions to rules, possible exceptions based on prior statements, etc. At every possible moment, this writer has failed on every possible level to write something enjoyable or believable, or even something worthy of suspension of disbelief.

The characters some times behave as if they were privied to knowledge never presented to them nor accessible by them. The MC frequently acts as if they had entire conversations or gone through entire endeavours never presented and in fact based on strict time keeping is shown never to have happened, before massively leaping from one topic to another acting as if it was self evident.

The female voice actress uses a very staticy and damaged microphone. Most of the time it is fine with edited echo, but without the masking effect it grains on your nerves and will also cause intense discomfort while listening.

This novel should be avoided.
