Publisher's Summary

For 18 years, Jude Farraday has put her children’s needs above her own, and it shows - her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close-knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable.

Jude does everything to keep her kids on track for college and out of harm’s way. It has always been easy - until senior year of high school. Suddenly she is at a loss. Nothing feels safe anymore; every time Mia and Zach leave the house, she worries about them. On a hot summer’s night her worst fears are realized. One decision will change the course of their lives. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget... or the courage to forgive.Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.

Good until the end

I really liked the book but the almost magical way it ended was so far beyond realistic it was silly, quite frankly. Everyone changed almost instantly when the author was ready to finish the book and it was wrapped up with a tidy, happy bow. Years of misery and every single person changed in a week.

Don’t waste your time on this one!

The first half of this book had me grinding my teeth. Hard. The characters were impractical and unbelievable. The biggest concern of the teenagers is that they not be late for curfew? The mother is so absorbed in the teenagers lives that she breaks down over a promise ring? It was ridiculous and the narration of the teen girls made them sound like mentally challenged children. The book got somewhat better at the halfway point but not good enough for me to recommend it. I regret the time I wasted on this book.

A novel in search of a plot

It was a soap opera masquerading as a novel. I stopped listening just past midway.

Great story

I found this a great book and well written. Kristin Hannah did a great job at building and creating a relationship with the characters. The ending felt a bit rushed and could have gone into another book

I enjoyed it

This book was good. The narrator was excellent. Some of the story however was cheesy and cringey. The way they made Mia speak and the things she said were so immature and babyish. The feelings the mom had were written very well. Overall a good book. Seemed like maybe it would be best suited for teenage girls, not grown women.

A Love Story

A little too much description making it drag. Was looking forward to the predictable end.
Not into weepy love stories.

Not as advertised

This book is listed as a thriller/suspense. Believe me there is nothing thrilling or suspenseful about this book. It is a teen romance/tragedy/morality tale. If this is the kind of book you like, then by all means read it. But don't expect suspense.

Not like Hannah’s other books

I forced myself to get though this book. The beginning was really for tweens, and then I found the rest of the story quite cliche.

so sad and so good

This book was an emotional roller coaster. Parts were hard to hear/read but gave a real glimpse into what some parents go through and so many parents fear. I loved the story and would recommend - even though many parts were sad!

Cheese

Predictable and tedious, this will be my last of her books. They all start to sound the same.
