Story
When Iris decides to move to New York to restart her life, she realizes she underestimated how big the Big Apple really is—all the nostalgic movies set in New York she’d watched with her mom while eating their special secret-recipe gelato didn’t quite do it justice. But Bobby, Iris’s best friend, isn’t about to let her hide away. He drags her to a famous autumn street fair in Little Italy, and as they walk through the food stalls, a little family-run gelateria catches her eye—could it be the same shop that’s in an old photo of her mother’s?

Two weeks before Christmas and all through Manhattan, shop windows are decorated in red and green satin. I'm standing alone in front of the famous Vivant department store, when a charming man named Aiden asks my opinion of the décor. It's a tragedy in tinsel, I say, unable to lie. He asks for a better idea with a twinkle in his eye. Did I know he owned the place? No. He put me on the spot. Now I'm working for that man, trying to ignore that he's hot. But as a down on her luck girl with a difficult past, I know an opportunity when I see one—and I have to make it last.

Publisher's Summary
Number-one New York Times best-seller.
A Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine Book Club pick. “Get ready to be swept up in a whirlwind romance. It absolutely charmed me.” (Reese Witherspoon)
“Josie Silver writes with a warmth so palpable her characters sneak their way into your heart and stay for a long time.” (Jill Santopolo, New York Times best-selling author of The Light We Lost, a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick)
Two people. Ten chances. One unforgettable love story.
Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away.
Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It's Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.
What follows for Laurie, Sarah, and Jack is 10 years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming, and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.
What the critics say
“Consider setting aside some time and prepare to be charmed as author Josie Silver takes readers on a captivating journey - where female friendship is as important as romantic love.... One Day in December is an unmistakable winner.” (USA Today)
“One Day in December is the sweetest love story. It’s gorgeous, absolutely lovely. Readers are going to love it.” (Marian Keyes)
"A must-read. In Josie Silver’s charming rom-com, Laurie experiences love at first sight through her bus window...then the car pulls away.... What follows is a decade of heartache, betrayal, and destiny.” (US Weekly)

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL STORY
This was adorable. A story of love, friendship, life and staying true to one's heart.
I loved the narrators and felt as though they did their characters pure justice. I loved the friendship between Laurie and Sarah - they felt like friends of mine by the end of the book after listening to how their lives played out. This was a story where you wanted ALL the characters to have a happy ending. This story made me feel things; like REALLY feel. The author was able stir up so much emotion to the point where I was like almost in tears at several points and I could feel my heart starting to race at the build up to points I knew were going to be difficult for the characters.
Definitely a great Christmas read but perfect for any time of year when you need reminding that life is too short to not love wholeheartedly.

Not enough romance
The voice actors did a good job in this audiobook. I liked that the plot wasn't a typical rom-com, but you didn't get enough romance with the main characters.

Fun Read
It starts off a bit silly but there's a ton of character growth as the story goes on. I enjoyed the narration quite a lot. My only complaint is that story seemed to drag on longer than necessary.
