Description

"As I opened the door and stepped into the humid night, her scream followed me out. But I knew there was still love for me in her heart....

"I'm unforgettable."

Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys, and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he's the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That's why he's planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he's promised today will be the best day ever.

But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them, and doubts start to arise. How perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really? How much do they trust each other? Is Paul the person he seems to be? And what are his secret plans for their weekend at the cottage?

Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion. In the best-selling vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage...or a life.

Pompous, sexist, delusional...

What a dickhead. Ha!

First person narration from the kind of man I absolutely loathe. Pompous, sexist, delusional, a little too big for his britches. I felt like I was listening to Donald Trump talk about his Best Day Ever(!).

It took a really long time for this one to unravel. A bit plodding through the first two thirds, I was desperate for something to happen. Maybe I was simply worn down by Paul's pontificating. When things start to happen it's a bit of fun. But just a bit. Far too little fun for 4 stars.

Best Day Ever

Although interesting, at times the main character, Paul, does not seem believable. This overall takes away from the story.

well told

The narrator did an excellent job telling the story and does a believable job portryaing the egotistical and pathological chatactor of Paul Strom. I gritten my teeth many times at the misogynistic things that the character thought and said, and listening to Paul's inner thoughts was both captivating and horrrifying at the time. The narrator and the author did an excellent job telling Paul's tale. The story does drag a bit, but for the most part Paul's monologue keeps the story interesting. A lot of the fun is guessing what is happening between the lines, or rather, what Paul isn't saying. As the story was told I found myself eagerly anticipating the eventful conclusion. I loved almost every moment of this story, and highly reccomend it.
