Publisher's Summary
The author of the number-one New York Times best seller and global phenomenon The Girl on the Train returns with Into the Water, her addictive new novel of psychological suspense.
A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged.
Left behind is a lonely 15-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother's sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from - a place to which she vowed she'd never return.
With the same propulsive writing and acute understanding of human instincts that captivated millions of fans around the world in her explosive debut thriller, The Girl on the Train, Paula Hawkins delivers an urgent, twisting, deeply satisfying story that hinges on the deceptiveness of emotion and memory as well as the devastating ways that the past can reach a long arm into the present.
Beware a calm surface - you never know what lies beneath.
Cast of narrators:
Rachel Bavidge, as third person narrator/Nel’s voice
Sophie Aldred, as Jules
Daniel Weyman, as Sean & Josh
Imogen Church, as Erin Morgan
Laura Aikman, as Lena
"Hawkins is at the forefront of a group of female authors - think Gillian Flynn and Megan Abbott - who have reinvigorated the literary suspense novel by tapping a rich vein of psychological menace and social unease...there's a certain solace to a dark escape, in the promise of submerged truths coming to light." (Vogue)
What the critics say
“A captivating contemporary whodunit…suspense churns and the plot keeps you guessing.” (People Magazine)
“Highly suspenseful…all these intrigues are teased out with impressive skill by Ms. Hawkins, who tells a complex narrative...in a chronicle whose final pages yield startling revelations." (The Wall Street Journal)
"[A] succulent new mystery...Hawkins, influenced by Hitchcock, has a cinematic eye and an ear for eerie, evocative language.... So do dive in. The payoff is a socko ending. And a noirish beach read that might make you think twice about dipping a toe in those dark, chilly waters.” (USA Today)

Great Book!!
This was overall a great book! The story was great, narrators were great - including some of my favourites!! I found it a little hard to follow on times as there is an abundance of characters and information but I still enjoyed it!!

Totally recommend this book!
If you like thought-provoking psychological suspense where action amps ups slow but steady--and the really dark battles and struggles are within the various characters' hearts and minds, you'll love this book. It takes a while to get into the audio book because you meet a lot of people, in their own POV, right off the get go, and until you kind of have a feel for who's who, you have to work to paddle along with the flow of the story--and then wham, you're totally pulled into the current and can't swim along fast enough.
Very interesting plot--particularly how the past feeds into the present.
I really, really, REALLY liked Girl on the Train, but I loved Into the Water.

A Good Listen
I love when they use multiple narrators. It was a good read and I enjoy listening to these kinds of books. It took me awhile to find time to listen to it.

Takes a while to get into the story
Many different characters makes it difficult to follow in the beginning and hard to get into the story. The story does get better, if you're patient.

Read a Paper Copy
The story takes place from A LOT of different character perspectives. The performances were great, but it took a lot of effort & memory to remember who was who. It would’ve been easier to understand while reading a paper copy so you could quickly flip back and forth.
