Publisher's Summary

The human race has become nearly extinct.

Allistor and his small group push to make themselves stronger, fighting to survive the year-long stabilization.

Forced to battle increasingly stronger and more deadly monsters, they work to expand their holdings, learn better spells, and gather resources to improve their crafting.

Dungeons must be cleared, and dragons defeated. Fellow survivors are found - some friendly, some hostile.

Allistor considers every human life precious, but when it becomes a case of kill or be killed, hard choices must be made.

And each day brings them closer to the invasion of Earth.

Author is a trump supporter

It shows up in book 3 and it is all over his Twitter. It’s too bad, the voice actors did a great job with the material

what a roller coaster

again the story is well done. with a few spots where the MC should really have learned a few things but he still hasn't. The emotional roller coaster is high in this one. lots of action lots of people lots of fighting. The voice acting again just tough notch. And the extra sound effects that get added in just wow. highly recommend this series. And I'm already sad that I'm through book two and probably will be done book three by tomorrow morning.

again to the sound booth team. amazing job. absolutely amazing work.

Good but MC is annoying

Good story but the MC being a dumbass and forgetting things just so the plot can progress gets pretty fing annoying. Seriously. There were more than a few points in the story where it doesn't seem like he has survived and killed as long as he has. He flips between being a cold badass killer to a high school kid gamer with no idea how to attack or use his abilities. Who doesn't study about the base that let's them survive? Who goes into a place with only 1 exit and rather than keeping watch on the exit, they stand with their back to it watching the other person loot and getting taken by surprise? Who falls asleep in the wild when monsters are a real thing? F*** I almost stopped listening due to how sometimes the MC is smart like a normal person, then the author almost turns him into a blithering idiot just for plot purposes or progression. The narrators tone sometimes doesn't match what is happening, sounding so smug that I want to punch them in the face because that is not what the situation calls fo

WOW!!!!

This audiobook series is one of the best I have ever listened to. I don't normally write a review but this time I just had to. There is not a single thing about this book that I didn't like. The story kept me going till all hours of the night. I finished it in two nights and I don't regret how freaking tired I have been throughout the day:) The Soundbooth Theater group was absolutely awesome. All the narrators were bang on and made it so easy to keep up with all the different characters. Then there were the sound effects. I normally don't care for sound effects as they tend to be very annoying when they are louder than the voices and cause me to lose the flow of the story. But these guys really know what they are doing because I only noticed when there was a deep growl of a monster. Then I realized there had been sound effects all along and they just added to the story so well that I never paid attention. You would think the gunshots would have startled me:)
The first book of this series is just as awesome as this second book but friends had bought me the first book as a birthday gift so I couldn't do a review. Please, Dave Willmarth, keep writing this series and keep Soundbooth Theater. Now that I have found you I see that you have a few other series for me to dig into which will keep me busy till book 3 of the 'Shadow Sun' comes out on audio. I think I also need to go find more books with Soundbooth Theater.

Great story all around.

I love this story! The characters are fun and the plot is good start to finish. This book could be a stand alone novel and I would feel satisfied with the ending, I’m glad and excited that there are more books in this series and can’t wait for the future of this world to develop.
