Disappointing

This is the first book by Joy Ellis that I haven't enjoyed. While the premise was interesting, the execution was flawed. The explanation for Joseph keeping his secret in extreme circumstances was contrived. Then the two leads keep secrets from each other. The villain was obvious and the ending was rushed. If you've listened to the Jackman series, you will likely be disappointed by the narrator of this set. Slowing down the speed to about 85% helps, but nothing can fix Joseph's wooden voice or worse, the way she portrays Rory. Instead of sounding like a flamboyant male, she has him wheezing like a 90 year old woman. There were several times when I wondered if the narrator was familiar with the words she was speaking based on odd pronunciation.

This was painfully LONGGGGGGG

This story could have been told in 1 hour. I listened to it all while driving. It was very drawn out. The ending was great.

Easy Listening

I thought the narration was great. Characters are likeable. Story was interesting but nothing spectacular. It was free from Audible so it was a good choice for a long car ride.

Great stories- not great narrator

I really enjoy Joy Ellis’s books and enthralling stories but this series is spoilt for me by the narrator. Her characters are weak and sometimes difficult to understand. So sad that Richard Armitage does not narrate all Joys series.

Terrible Narration

If you enjoyed the Jackman series, be ready for a completely different experience. I agree with a previous reviewer. Some of the character's voices were grating, and I particularly disliked the portrayal of Rory. In the Jackman series, he was a likeable character, but the wayHenrietta Meire read his lines, I just wanted it to be over. Joseph's voice was flat and uninteresting, and I couldn't warm to the characters with the high-pitched voices, either. Plus, numerous words were mispronounced, as if she had no idea what they meant. I'm sure I would have enjoyed the book, with a different narrator. These books are easy listening, and I don't care if the plot is thin or predictable; but when they cease to be easy-listening, I don't see the point. I suffered through the same narrator in Book 1, and I will pass on the rest of the series, since they are all read by her. So disappointing!

Terrific story and characters.

Love that the setting is in the fens. Enjoy the interplay between the characters. The development of the main character is great fun.

Enjoyed Book 1 and Book2! Going on to Book 3!

I enjoyed the storyline of Shadow Over the Fens, written by Joy Ellis and narrated by Henrietta Meire. It kept me attached to my earbuds to find out what will happen next. I so enjoy the well-developed characters who are working with the two main characters, who are developing a wonderful relationship themselves. I'm hooked, and am now going on to Book 3: Hunted on the Fens!
