Publisher's Summary

Featuring a conversation with the authors!

In this spectacular father/son collaboration, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: What might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place....

The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women's prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

Loved And Hated

Sleeping Beauties, to keep it simple, while I loved the story and narrator did a tremendous! job at brining each individual charter to life. I absolutely HATED the ending. The novel spends the whole book building up too what I thought would be an amazing climatic ending, only have the story just peter out and end so disappointingly borning. The ending left me with the thought of "Why the hell did I just waste my time on this?"

Not bad, not great

It’s a decent book. In the interview at the end Owen and Stephen King state they were going to write this as a tv show - it shows. This reads more like a weekly tv episode then a novel. So so.

Disappointingly Weak - Sorry ... but Honest.

Can't believe I feel this way about a book by my all time number one favorite author 'whose every book I've read so far has been deep and attention holding. Several of his books I've read two or three times, but I have to be honest. This book just didn't have the pacing of a King book. It was way too easy to guess and predict the end way before it ever came, and it seemed to go off on way too many unnecessary angles & subplot developments that made it difficult to not get bored. Just not up to par, and often felt bogged down. As much as I love all King’s books, whether written alone or with other authors (i.e. especially Straub), I would say that buying this book was very regrettable.

Weak for Stephen King

Big time SK fan but this was one of his weaker books. Just couldn’t quite get too into it. Decent voice actor

Disappointing

I wanted to love this book, after all it's Stephen King! But... I felt like I could tell when he was writing and when his son Owen was writing. It just didn't have the pacing of a typical King book of the genre. It seemed to go off on too many tangents and subplot developments that didn't seem necessary to the story. I found myself getting bored and wishing something, anything, would happen to push the story on but it tended to get bogged down in so many places. I feel like I'm committing sacrilege because I do enjoy so many of Mr. King' s books.... Just not this one.

Fantastic

A wonderful impression of how quickly men and their morals, laws, and restraint can go downhill. Narration is not terrible. I could have done without some of the voices she gave. A little too stereotypically redneck. otherwise, a great listen.

Mr King Stands alone

As a Stephen King fan I had high expectations for this book. unfortunately this book just does not come close to the style I've come to love from Mr King's books. The story was abrupt and unpolished it felt contrived and unpolished. As for the narrating it was terrible. the accents were over the top and made for an all around unpleasant experience. I never thought I'd give a Stephen King book one star but here we are. Me King is much better when he writes alone.

Great story

Working my way through the last few SK novels I haven’t already read. It’s nice to listen to them while I work. Story was fantastic, narration was alright.

What a fantastic book.

I was enthralled. I hardly could bear to stop listening it was so addictive. And the emotions and thought processes that where brought up through the book where very real and strong.
