Bloomsbury presents The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

The twist of a knife. The birth of a legend.

Step into the world of the #1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas with this collection of prequel novellas.

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful Assassin’s Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, she yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. But when Arobynn dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, Celaena finds herself acting independently of his wishes and questioning her own allegiance.

If she hopes to escape Arobynn’s clutches, Celaena will have to put her faith in her wits and her blade...knowing that if she fails, she’ll lose not just a chance at freedom but her life.

A prequel to the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass, this collection of five novellas explores the history of this cunning assassin and her enthralling—and deadly—world.

Included in this volume:

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord

The Assassin and the Healer

read third and loved it!

I read it third as SJM suggests and it was perfect. gave more emotion and depth to the stories and characters, and had so many little easter eggs hidden throughout. performance as always was wonderful. I was worried it'd feel like a step back/break in the story reading it third but it only enhanced the rest of it and made rhings better as I already knew enough to be invested in the characters.

Was more hyped up

I’m glad I read it after the third book for sure but it was definitely hyped up more than it deserved. I enjoyed it but nothing was riveting and I ended up guessing the plot fairly easily

Loved it

Seven books of holy greatness! This series was seriously well written and captivating. Also I liked how they had the same narrator for the whole series.
Thumbs up 👍🏼

good series

I am enjoying the Throne of Glass series, and the Assassin's Blade gives some good background into the series. It is well written and well performed.

Beginning of a great series

If you haven't read the other book may have spoilers in my review....

Wonderful, but hard read of beginnings of Celaena Sardothien . Before she took back her real name. The story of her falling in love with Sam and how she was betrayed by the King of Assassin's. Listened to it in One day. I couldn't stop it was really good.

so you have PTSD

learn about the trauma that made Celaena into the broken and lethal force of the gods she is. Flesh out the world we have grown to love before getting to the back half of our original adventure. Pirate's, Assassins, Giant horse sized spiders, witches, and so much trauma await

Amazing prequel. I loved getting to know the characters that come in later novel

I am tempted to go back and reread all of the subsequent novels after reading this book. Great all around!

Great read

thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, however I would have much preferred reading it before starting the initial Throne of Glass book, I listened to everyone and read it after heir of Fire, and really regretted it because was so confused when reading the first book but this book gives you so much more insight, I do understand the reason why it's placed after the third book but for me personally I would have much preferred to read this book first.

good story

I thought it was a good story plot, and the book has many great moments, but I didn't find the main character believable. If she was older. Maybe. Or if her personality was sharper maybe. She is spoiled but she isn't as HARD as she should be. I found it hard to reconcile the assasin she is supose to be (and her skill level) with her age and also her emotions. 3.5 stars from me.
