Eva never really wanted to be a mother - and certainly not the mother of a boy who ends up murdering seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher who tried to befriend him, all two days before his 16th birthday. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevin’s horrific rampage, in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklin.

Mary is a quiet middle-aged woman doing her best to blend into the background. Unremarkable. Invisible. Unknown even to herself. But lately, things have been changing inside Mary. Along with the hot flashes and body aches, she can’t look in a mirror without passing out, and the voices in her head have been urging her to do unspeakable things. Fired from her job in New York, she moves back to her hometown hoping to reconnect with her past and inner self. Celeste Price is an eighth-grade English teacher in suburban Tampa. But Celeste's devotion lies elsewhere. She has a singular sexual obsession: 14-year-old boys. In slaking her sexual thirst, Celeste Price is remorseless and deviously free of hesitation, a monstress driven by pure motivation. She deceives everyone, and cares nothing for anyone or anything but her own pleasure. With crackling, rampantly unadulterated prose, Tampa is a grand, uncompromising, seriocomic examination of want and a scorching literary debut.

Description
An Amazon Charts bestseller.
Near an isolated mansion lies a beautiful garden.
In this garden grow luscious flowers, shady trees...and a collection of precious “butterflies” - young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens.
When the garden is discovered, a survivor is brought in for questioning. FBI agents Victor Hanoverian and Brandon Eddison are tasked with piecing together one of the most stomach-churning cases of their careers. But the girl, known only as Maya, proves to be a puzzle herself.
As her story twists and turns, slowly shedding light on life in the Butterfly Garden, Maya reveals old grudges, new saviors, and horrific tales of a man who’d go to any length to hold beauty captive. But the more she shares, the more the agents have to wonder what she’s still hiding...

The story was great, the performance was brutal
Normally if I really dislike the performer I can’t get through the book, but this book was definitely worth pushing through it. The female narrator was great, but the male narrator was frustrating to listen to as he made the main character sound nasally and whiny anytime he voiced her (which you know she’s not- because you hear her side of the story from the female narrator, and also that’s not her personality) it was a very weird contrast and the I spent the entire book wishing it would go back to the female narrator. I’m glad I heard this book though, it was a wild ride from start to finish, I couldn’t have guessed any of it, I really cared about the characters and could have listened to so much more of this story!

Book is fantastic had some issues with performance
So this book is very good. It’s engaging, has complex characters, solid story structure and is creepy in the best way. However I didn’t like how the performance was done. Using one Narrator for one part and switch to another for the other was strange and took me out of the moment. Both narrators did a good job but the way it was formatted just didn’t make sense to me

Good but could have been great
I loved the narration, having two gender parties instead of just one was a nice change. I did however wish it would have been darker. They should have put in alot more detail about the butterflies deaths which I think is a very important part of the novel!

Highly recommend
Although many people found this book creepy or unsettling I found it sad and dark this book made me realize the obsession with love and memories and the pain that they can hold this book showed how infatuation and live are extremely different and how mistaking infatuation for love is truly devastating I really enjoyed this book but there is definitely a sensor if you are extreamly sensitive to rape and torture I would think hardly about reading this in my opinion the ending wasn’t horrible I just think it wasn’t the greatest way to end such a deep and sad story but definitely a 9.5/10 from me

Dark and disturbing
Well this book definitely affected me. It held me interest throughout but it was a bit like watching (listening to) a train wreck. You cant stop watching and you really want to know what happens but you ultimately feel guilty about your voyerism. I was very interested in the story and what happens to the girls but after it was done I was left with a lot of questions and a lot of unsettling thoughts about what I just listened to, which I'm not sure is a good thing.

Honest review
Oh my god this is one of my favourite books of all time.
Overall story was exceptional to say the least. I liked the broken fairytale sort of way Maya thinks and speaks with, and how her character was written and how well rounded she was.
Even though this is fiction it is a believable story for better and for worse unfortunately. I loved Bliss and Lionette and all the girls really. The FBI agents are wonderful and I love how they both had their reasons of being there and the different ways they interacted with Maya.
I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t. All I will say is please read this book!
There are some very very heavy topics and themes so if you are at all concerned about that I recommend looking into it a bit more to make sure it’s an okay read for you :)

Gripping storyline, bad performance
Like others said below, the male reader made the book hard to finish.
The voice he gave the main character was very patronizing and made her sound very whiny and overall was very unpleasant to listen to. Luckily the storyline was split 50/50 between the lectors so you could take a break from that.

Amazing world building
The world building in the story is just amazing, you really get to feel and understand the butterfly garden from the points of view that are shared to the reader. I will say that the twist is a little bit boring and I will say that the climax is a little dull. But the rest of the storytelling is able to forgive that, definitely recommend it if you are into world building and story detail.
